Normally, people look into the A/C compressor getting stuck after the first time the belt flew around their head.Not unreasonable. The A/C needs some internal temp to get stuck in his early stage. But there's a good chance there is debris within the hole system. Or he has plenty of oil in the system.

R12 and R134a use different oils. If it's the compressor it's high-likely the system has debris inside of the blocking unit. Flush it and you remove all the rest of the oil too. Yes, you can use the full amount of the bottle. But you have to empty the oil in the compressor you sell.
