My Dream in Blue

I received some samples of the 3m 1080 vinyl. Considering using vinyl to temporarily blacken the top to see if i like it before going the paint route. I would like to find something close to the berlina black but the choices are limited.

i saw satin because it looks matte, i THINK the black is something that would add a little contrast and accent the beauty of the hood; but not scream for attention; ie. if it were all waxed and glossed out. kind of like the matte black plastic in the rear valence as well as the matte black portion of inside the front bumper

are there any photos of nsxR hoods painted in this manner? i think that because your hood is already painted; you may as well just leave it as is... unless CF is exposed this may not be worth it.

all IMHO of course

I was thinking that before i got them. Do you think there would be much of a contrast to the other black parts? Didn't think to get pics of the samples next to the door handles.

My fault because i didn't specify.

The vinyl will be to temp the top of the car black, like the coupes. The targa top, A and b pillars.

To give you a better idea....

I just got my car back from a full respray. My roof is painted gloss black but my paint/body guy really wanted to wrap it all in Matte Carbon fiber.

I think the matte black would look great. Here is a comparison for the Matte carbon compared to my gloss black roof underneath:

Also... I would consider the vinyl roof to keep instead of painting. If you ever sell your car or want the blue roof back, you can simply peel it. Many high end exotics are wrapped these days... and if done right, it can look great.

@myw
Thanks man but the vinyl is actually for the roof, NSX-R style. I took pictures with them on the hood for color comparison.

@nsxot1c
Chris your car is looking great. So the top is gloss black and the pillars/trim are cf wrap?

I am not sure i want to have to much contrast. The door handles and trim are one black, then the "sides" of the R spoiler are berlina black and the mirrors/diffuser will be dark cf.

Mike

lol my bad! i misunderstood from reading turbo2Gos comments.

checkout bluebatmobiles car if you want to get a good idea of what your car would look like with a black top!

I'd suggest going with the gloss black if you have numerous different blacks. The handles and trim are a gloss black oem on our cars, and your gloss black seems to match quite closely.

BlueB@tmobile's roof is actually vinyl wrapped in gloss black so his car will give you a good idea. Plus vinyl wrap can always be peeled later if you want to go for a different look. And it's just as durable.

I think a gloss black roof on your car would look great. It's very close to Berlina and will match all the trim/handles.

Thanks!! My entire roof/pillars/trim is all wrapped in carbon fiber right now. The entire roof and trim are all gloss black underneath, but my body guy wanted to wrap it all for the big exotic concours show we just brought it to. I wanted to post both for you because the carbon wrap almost looks matte black-ish.

+1 if its for the roof 100% gloss black just like paint.

Hey guys thank you very much :smile: I really value your opinions.

I probably will go with the gloss, just need to find a installer. Unlike you Chris, i asked my body shop if they could do it and they looked at me like i was stupid.

Update
Purchased a CT high flow cf intake yesterday and getting a copy of the R engine cover that was made in Thailand. I will have to modify the intake (91-96) to fit and probably the cover too.

Was home this weekend to get a list of the sc parts for the installer and to get a couple more things done. Went over to my friend fifthearth's house and he helped me out :smile:.

The NSX-R wing that i waited 14 weeks be be replaced was made wrong, they didn't use the smoke clear coat. Boxed it back up but not sure i want to wait another 14 weeks to get it fixed, might just request a refund. Worked on the fitment of the pride v2 exhaust. We were able to make it better but even using the adjustable adapters it still isn't perfect so will need to figure out something. Wanted to install the comptech targa brace but didn't realize the oem bolts wouldn't work.

Installed the H airbag.

Airbag_3_zpsdc688ed0.gif

Installed the new CT intake. Thought it would need to be cut but it fit so i guess it was for the targa.

Intake_3_zps1b968fa8.gif

Not a fan of the design so i will seal the intake to the oem intake hole in the fender which is still connected to the downforce intake scoop in the future.

Here is a photo of the gloss black vinyl next to the trim for comparison.

Will be updating my parts list to include a couple of the items already posted but, have some new stuff ordered to include also :biggrin:

Will be installing the low boost sc without the fuel and ignition parts from the comptech kit. The only electrical will be the alternator and the only fuel item i will use are the rails and i believe only two fuel hoses. I believe using these items which only fool the oem system to function is why lots of people have problems running lean at high rpm. I want a safe build so i am going with larger injectors and a AEM FIC instead which i believe will result in a safer boost as well as possibly more hp then the comptech kit while keeping the fuel pressures near normal. Will try to use the oem fuel pump and oem 1:1 FPR. Purchased a adapter to fit the comptech rails for the oem FPR.

A little info i added from my other thread. Added some new info about how i did the finish.

Comptech SC (Whipple) for 3.2
Low boost pulley (91mm)
Belt for (91mm)
Elbow repair kit
Comptech Targa brace (old style)

AEM FI/C 30-1911
FI/C harness adapter
Injectors (RC SL9-0550 550cc)
plug-and-play wire clip (injectors)
SOS Fuel Rail Adaptor
Fuel line fitting (Earl's)
New fuel filter
New oem FPR

Mainly i am going FIC because there have been so many posts about people running lean at the top with the ctsc. I don't want to take the risk because too lean leads to detonation. When you think about it, all the fuel related parts of the kit seem to be like a bandaid, just to make it work. With the FI/C most of those parts won't even be used and the tuner should be able to set it up where going lean at the top is no issue. I chose the FI/C over the stand alone because it keeps the oem computer.

I used one of the calculators and making various changes my requirements should be anywhere from 424cc to 521cc between 40psi- 43.5psi. The 424cc would be at a minimum hp and the 521cc would be at a higher hp then i will actually achieve. So to me, as long as i cover the 521cc i'm good.

Some that i looked at
RDX 500-510cc @ 55-58psi
Have to rule these out because of the high pressure requirement.

ID 725 610cc @ 40psi and 725cc @ 43.5psi
I belive these will be too large for my setup.

RC SL9-0550 550cc @ 43.4psi
These seem to be my only option. Wish i knew what cc they are at around 40psi.

I can't see a reason to raise the fuel pressure when i can use larger injectors at the oem pressure. Having to raise the pressure above oem is basically what the comptech bandaid does, isn't it?

Unless i'm missing something, this is how i think it should look. All the lines are stock except the two dark ones. I don't know if the one i have which is about 24" long with AN both ends will work from rail to filter.

This is how the SC looked when i purchased it. The yellow paint is powdercoat.

a24b7da2.jpg

I sent the SC to my powdercoater to see if they could remove it since i was having the intake and other parts coated. They tried blasting it with different media but in the end they were only able to get off about 2"x3" area and they actually damaged the finish by keeping it one spot too long. I tried several different paint strippers but the only one that really worked was Klean Strip Premium Stripper gel. Took me about 6 hours of scraping to finally get the powdercoat off.

Paint stripped

SC_1_zps4006abd8.jpg

Repaired sand blast damage to finish.

SC_2_zps976a6d78.jpg

The new finish was 5 steps

1. PPG DX533 aluminum cleaner
2. PPG DX503 aluminum conditioner
3. Spray Max Epoxy Primer •Two component
4. Lacquer Paint (Euro Blue/Gray)
5. Spray Max 2K Rapid Cut-In Spot Clearcoat •Two component premium urethane clear coat

The primer and clearcoat are reall cool. They are spray cans with a internal chamber that keeps the paint and hardener separate. Use the special cap on the bottom of the can to puncture the hardener chamber and shake before using.

Hey Mike, how you guys doing? Unfortunately i seem to be having problems with everything except the work you guys did :wink:

@ajnsx
Hi buddy, didn't think i would get one but when i started buying parts i couldn't stop. Since i won't be using much of the kit this will be a "Comtec" kit :biggrin:

@sduffass
Hey man thanks. Hopefully i won't need any but you never know. Did you get another set?

yeah you know, i know what that feels like:biggrin: if fortune shines my way i'll snap one up, your car is looking peach.

Looking great. I bet you cant wait to enjoy the fruits of your labor

Thanks Man,
Yeah but that seems like a long time off since winter is coming and still have things to do.

@ajnsx
Thank you,
I'm still doing it too, need to update the parts list just waiting for some items to ship. I did finally get the front emblem to go with the rear one but i think i will wait until they paint the hood again before putting them on. I expect to be having the hood re-done at the end of next month.
