The General Exclaim UHP rear tires on the '97 that I just purchased need to be replaced. I would like to stay with the OEM sizes since car is riding on stock wheels. That would be 245/40 17 rear and 215/45 16 front. Don't see anything on this topic in this forum where different original size tire brands are discussed. Anyone have a recommendation?

You can also use 205/45-16 front tires with 245/40-17 rear, and 255/40-17 rear with 215/45-16 fronts. (I wouldn't recommend 255/40-17 with 205/45-16 though.) There's no reason to shy away from these size combinations; they'll work fine.

Here are recommendations, depending on your priorities and preferences:

If you want the absolute best traction and grip, then get one of these "extreme performance" tires:

Bridgestone Potenza RE-11 205/45-16 and 245/40-17
Toyo Proxes R1R 205/45-16 and 245/40-17
Kumho Ecsta XS 215/45-16 and either 245/40-17 or 255/40-17
Falken Azenis RT-615K 215/45-16 and 255/40-17

If you want the most precise handling "feel", get the stock tires, which are still available:

Bridgestone Potenza RE010 215/45-16 and 245/40-17

All of the above choices will wear relatively rapidly, and won't give you as many miles as your current General Exclaim UHP. If you're willing to trade off some grip and handling for a tire that lasts somewhat longer (these things being relative, in an NSX ;) ), then get one of these "ultra high performance" tires, which will still give you slightly better grip and handling than the General Exclaim UHP that you are currently using, along with similar treadlife:

BFGoodrich g-Force Sport COMP-2 205/45-16 and 245/40-17
Bridgestone Potenza RE760 Sport 205/45-16 and 245/40-17
