Unofficial Big-Wheel Thread: 18/18 and 18/19 - the future for NSX tire sizes

Due to this investment and now problem, I am willing to be a Guinea pig and try something on an 05. Currently running 235/40/17 and 275/35/18 NT01 on 17x8 RSII et 37 and 18x9 ET 25. I've pulled liners and somewhat rolled oem fenders. I'd like to stick with RSII's as I like their style. My rear wheel on the front clears the caliper with room.

Billy, the tire selection at 225/40/18 is mouth watering. But NSXotic1 Chris is saying no go no matter what. What can I do to help advance this since I'm now left without much choice.

I'm not saying no-go no matter what. At stock height or close to it anything is possible... and or maybe a 18x9.5 up front so the 225/40/18 has some stretch. I do not foresee 18x8 or 18x8.5 on a 225/40-18 being possible without major rub. Hell, I ran 18x8.5 35mm on my TE37's and initially had 225/35/18 and experienced rub. Granted yes, My car is and has always been dropped a decent amount.

I'm pretty sure I can make the 225-40-18 work.... but on the rear... Billy you have made several mentions and I am not sure which are inadvertent typos. What is the ideal rear? 265, 275, 285, or 295 with the 225 up front? We do keep increasing weight slightly...

OEM O.D difference front 215/40/17 and rear 255/40/17 is 1.3"

225/40/18 and 265/35/19 is 1.4"
225/40/18 and 275/35/19 is 1.6"
225/40/18 and 275/30/19 is 0.6"
225/40/18 and 285/30/19 is 0.7"
225/40/18 and 295/30/19 is 1.0"
225/40/18 and 305/30/19 is 1.2"

You've mentioned a lot of 30 series, I don't believe a 30 series rear is a great choice diameter-wise, although the 295 starts to close the gap.

They weren't typos. I said I didn't like the idea of putting any 275 on a 9" wheel.

225/40-18 would pair up diameter wise with 275/40-18 just fine.

Also with that front:

Ideal:
265/35-19
275/35-19
285/35-19

Still very good:
295/30-19
295/35-19
305/30-19

No I was talking about something other posts, It's just electronic miscommunication.

OK let's get down to the nitty gritty of it since I may actually be buying stuff now. What would be the ideal tire and size for street and track here? We've determined the front and have 265/275/285 35-19 as a rear choice. Now that you can truly pick any tire type and rear size...

Going by your previous setup of tire sizes which were 215 and 255 and a difference of 40mm, wouldn't the 225 and 265 pretty much match that and be the idea one for you.

You keep the weight down with that size and you also keep the width's semi closer which according to some help handling.

That was my thoughts process as well previously, however I'm probably going to lean more towards tire widths to match the car's weight distribution.

For that a 225/295 would be ideal, so I think a 225/275 would be an easier step in that direction.

So why not just go 295? I mean the ultimate goal is performance not just weight loss. I like the idea of a smaller tire's lighter weight but if ultimately it's worse for the performance...

Ideal will vary on your entire setup - springs, bars, weight, etc...

235/275 is a proven package, but often could use more rear grip, so i'm pretty comfortable recommending 225/275. I have not tried 225/295 but intend to do so in the near future and think it could be a better package. But again, it's untested and would require a 10.5-11" wheel. 10.5 would work with 275 pretty well, so that may be the best flexible option.

RSii does not come in the correct offset in 10.5 or 11", so if you find a wheel that can do all of the above, then go for it.

Why don't yo come drive my car and tell me the ideal then.

What offset are you thinking that you say the RSII does not come in it?

19x10 +35 will fit under stock fenders. 19x10.5 +22 probably wont (but will under the FX flared fenders)...

So they're making rears as well?

Still interested in seeing this work with a lowered suspension...

A friend Wes installed 18x8.5 19x9.5 Volk TE37 with 225/40-18 and 275/35-19 and according to him the car "couldn't turn."

Offsets?

I wouldn't recommend these sizes under stock front fenders. Which is why FXMD is making the slightly wider fenders F&R.

That's way too aggressive.

So the lightest wheels I have found are these. Unbelievably, multi-piece. 18x8.5 at roughly 15.5 pounds, 19x10.5 roughly 18 pounds.

They all use a rather exotic T7000 series aluminum alloy, and titanium fasteners.

They are forgiato formula wheels. It's all custom. They are not cheap because of the cost of the alloy.

While a 19x10 +35 can probably fit alright under a stock fender. A 10-15mm spacer (or +20 to +25 total offset) under the FXMD rear fenders would have plenty of room.

3pc wheels are usually a lot weaker than 1pc wheels, so expect to be replacing lips and barrels probably a lot more than the 'cast' RSii's.

Why is the new FXMD car using multi piece wheels? Trust me I'm not a fan but man are they light!!

Wheel width and offset limitations, sponsorship, etc... Multi-piece wheels are usually heavier but are more flexible in terms of offsets and repairs. They have their own + & - 's. I'm not familiar with the wheels you posted. Are they really that light? Are those actual pics or photoshopped? They kind of look photoshopped.

Those are actual photos. They really are that light. 7000 series aluminum alloy. It's the stuff the terminator was made of lol

19x9.5 22mm is actually very conservative. (1" plus inset)

I ran the same sizing in my white TE's and ended up running a 15mm spacer to have them flush.

You put a 15mm spacer on that 19x9.5 +22 (white nsx above) under a stock fender??? That white car looks like the offset is sticking out too far as it is.

That white nsx above was attempting to run 275 35 19 which was a no go regardless.
