Stanced and Custom Aluminum Widebody

My take on the ownership of my NSX like any other vehicle I own is self-expressionism. I did not build this car to conform to anyone's style or taste. I've noticed over the years that the NSX "style" has remained stale with little variation in between. As beautiful and elegant as the lines on the NSX, I envisioned the NSX beyond that...I wanted an elegant, yet, aggressive stance that complements the low slung curvature of the NSX.

2008-09 Beginning of Stance- Despite what everyone said about straight 19's looking awkward on the NSX, I decided to reck 19's anyways. The huge stagger front to rear in my mind looked awesome and well balanced. Check out the rear poke!

2011-12 CCW LM..again, going against the grain of what everyone says about straight 18's looking unbalanced, I decided to order a set of CCW LM's anyways.
18X9 and 18X11.5 with a huge rear lip with rear massive poke..

And did I get a lot of lip for this setup. LOL!!

I thought it looked great!

Got bored..I decided to rock super wide tires 295/35/18. Filled the rear perfectly

Finally swapped to a double stagger 18 and 19's Work S1R Meister with negative offsets in the rear 19X10.5 -15 or so..also pulled rear fenders extensively to reduce rear poke to flush fitment.

Glad you posted!! Didn't realize that it was the same car! I've saved pics of your car when it was black and red! Lol

2014...Just when I thought my Project NSX was visually done...I wanted an even more of an agressive stance beyond that of the 19X10.5 -15. As I was browsing through pics of NSX widebodies, I realized all of the widebodies shared 3 fatal characterisitics which I was opposed to....

1) Widebody fitment but weak front wheel fitment and decent rear wheel fitment case in point Sorcery or Route KS (as sexy as these widebodies are..)
2) Composite Fiberglass material makes for an easily shatterable material...No wonder why all these widebody guys are running 18X8's or 18X9's with front wheel with stock offsets? I thought the point of using wider front and rear panels is to be able to run more aggressive wheel setups...not stock front wheel offsets and weak rear offsets...One Word...WHACK!
3) The guys running wider aggressive wheel setups are running super wide front and rear panels (case in point Sorcery JGTC and Veilside) that literally alters the stock look of an NSX, and I'm not a NSX purist by any means, but if you've seen a veilside NSX for the first time, you'd be scratching your head wondering what type of vehicle is hidden behind that vast front, side, rear panels..a Fiero???

So in the quest in wanting a wider/meaner/more intimidating stance, my criterias where anti-traditional JDM widebody. Non of them fit the bill as to what I wanted my NSX to accomplish.
1) I wanted to literally keep the NSX body lines and curvature of the factory panels
2) Panels that could withstand the testament of a super-aggressive fitment without the fear of cracking or shattering the panels
3) I wanted to maintain the NSX's "Claim to Fame" legendary and iconic aluminum panels which in itself is an irony. NSX aluminum panels are malleable and can be easily ripped. Erik and Tony from (West Jones Auto) my NSX design team came up with an ingenious way to resolve this "Weak aluminum issue" which will be addressed later..

So here the customization surgery begins...I understand a huge portion of NSX owners would think that this process is blasphemous..but I could care less. The end result speaks for itself.

Strip Down..

Like all of my custom widebodies (Genesis Coupe, S14 Kouki) first step is to slot the fenders to estimate desired width and wheel fitment. Initially, my plan was to run white Work Meister 3P 4" front lip and 6" rear lip.
IMG_20140314_161041.jpg

Due to the structural integrity and abuse the front fenders would take and be subjected to with my wide wheels set up, ERIK and Tony used an armor over-lay of aluminum panels shaped and contoured into place temporarily with rivets and some bolts..

IMG_20140314_161059.jpg

Once the shape and contour is shaped and hammered, screws and rivets are removed to reduce the weight of each panel. Armor plates are now adhered together using a special 3M aluminum bonding glue..

Underseam of the front fender:

And adhered together:

Near completion and looks awfully strange at this point:

He literally spent almost 2 days per fender measuring, shaping, sanding, and contouring each panel for precision...simply amazing work and craftsmanship..

OMG..look at that width! Nearing final stage of 1 fender completion:

For those of you that might not see my NSX in person...the rim to fender gap has been further reduced..but the subtle poke is gorgeous and aggressive..
IMG_20140323_111311.jpg

Now the front fender is once again removed..underside has a special putty solution that prevents rust and allows for a smooth inner fender wheel well just in case the tires rubs against the inside...putty is then sanded and smoothed down...

Widened Fenders make the 19X11 +0 look like child's play in the rear:)

In addition, to compensate for my super slammed static ride height, I also had my guys shorten the height of the Marga Hill side skirt by an inch to clear those pesky speed humps..

Before the NSX went to the spray..I elected at the very end to use a wheel that is not only as iconic as the Meister 3P, but never seen on an NSX ever before..the LXZees in full chrome being test fitted for precision and fender clearing..Shout out to my boys at VR wheels especially Jack the owner..

Pulled the joint venture between Erik, Tony, and myself out of West Jones Auto and with my right hand man, Chaddy, my NSX was shot the same day by Jon Zhang aka 1013MM photographer for a Japanese magazine full spread feature specifically for NSX's...Pretty P-I-M-P!! A shout out for RYO for making this happen..

I love how u did the rear with the spats, difllow diffuser.. I have an 02+ diffuser now and want to do what you did just because of how u can see the exhaust!! So nice!

That is some good old fashioned bodywork....his work looks very well integrated . For the sake of this thread I hope no one will quote any of your picture posts:eek:

Thanks for all the documentation. Nice work!

:( never understood the "stance" or "hella flush" look. It's a performance car, not a civic. Get some proper fitting wheels and tires that aren't stretched on the rim for safety's sake. Not to mention the car will perform much better.

Not everyone buys a performance car for the performance. They buy it because they simply like the car sometimes.

You can have your own philosophy on stance too, but recognizing quality work is important. This is not hack work. This is well thought-out and costly, labor intensive, and if nothing else, unique. I'm a performance guy.... I won't put anything on that doesn't help my performance but I am so appreciative of work like this because it paves the way for someone like me that needs to fit a larger than usual wheel and tire combo on the car. So even if we may be doing it for different end-results, sometimes the process is similar.

Diddy doesn't track his car either. I do. But I have helped him with a number of things and he has helped me with a number of things too. He too has a beautiful NSX even if it is not necessarily a track car. As long as someone does quality work, not tacky cheap stuff, I don't have a problem with it. I find a lot more in common with that guy than I see differences.

Not a fan of the "stance thing" but with that said I absolutely love the work put into the widebody. Props for doing something different!

Thanks for all the documentation. Nice work!

I spent the time doing this just for you [email protected] it took several hours digging up and organizing the photos. But I think that my body shop guy Erik Torres and Tony deserves serious recognition for their outstanding craftsmanship...You can IG him Erik05v or call him at the shop 909-997-2044. In fact, Erik has two NSX's he's working on...

I think this thread will last longer if you allow people to express their own opinion openly without the need to strongly rebuke them .That is just my suggestion.
