Has anybody tried this long term and had success. I'm not an audiophile but like the idea of not having a head unit and using my smartphone through my current aftermarket system. What is the actual equipment needed to pull this off?
Over the one year that I've had an NSX, I've never used a head unit. For a few months, I plugged my iPhone directly into the factory amps, and then I switched to the Kinivo bluetooth unit plugged directly into the factory amps. I like this setup because it is very convenient and allows for hands-free phone calls. I still plan to fully replace the OEM amps and speakers, and when I do so, may switch to a higher-quality solution for music, like the iStreamer plugged into one JL amp or another with volume control. For an amp without the option for remote volume control, it's possible to add a separate volume control stage. Since you have an aftermarket system, I would think about adding the Kinivo to your amp. You will probably need/want a ground-loop isolator to minimize noise from the Kinivo. It made a world of difference for me, thanks to phryxis, who started one of the threads below.
I read your thread. The third line down said something about "Bose Speakers" taking your advice I moved on. The other re commended threads both have some great advice and ideas. As usual thanks to the Prime family of posters to inspire creativity.
