Tape Deck/Console Mounted GPS Phone Holder

After seeing the 3-in-1 cupholder, some of you guys were asking about a phone mount to be able to use the phone as a GPS. Rooski Innovations delivers!

A modular design system has been developed that functions similarly to many mainstream vehicle phone mounts. This modular system can hold devices as narrow as 2 1/4" (across the screen) to as wide as you like!

Both designs feature a spring-return clamping system that holds any device (up to ~0.8 inches; can be modified upon request). These springs are easily changed out upon the user's discretion. This mechanism features guide slots to track the arms of the clamp.

There are currently 2 'mounting' options available for the holder:
1) console mounted
2) tape deck insert

The console mounted device holder simply slides between the console cover and the leather console support, next to the radio head unit. It features an additional lip to help prevent and wobble or topple of the unit.

The console mounted unit was tested with some hard neighborhood cornering, as well as at 40mph around a small roundabout; the rear end of the car kicked out while the mount (with iPhone 5s) didn't budge. Disclaimer: If you are racing your car, I can't guarantee that the mount will stay in place. However, as tested, under most conditions it should stay.

If you would like to have the console mount mirrored to fit on the driver's side of the console, I can make that happen.

The tape deck mounted holder is pictured in a Lexus SUV, however, should still fit well in the NSX tape deck. The rest of the unit is identical to the console mounted, except for the 'mounting' method to the car.

To clarify, the modular system is based on using the same device holding structure for either mount, not interchanging the mount. It is 1 mounting style per item.

The base price for each Mounted GPS/Phone Holder will be $30.00, which includes shipping to the continental 48 states. Customizations can be made at a negotiable price.

To order, email Jeff at: [email protected]. Invoices will be sent via Paypal (and can be paid with/without a Paypal account).

UPDATE: there is now an option to have the tape deck mount allow your phone to be mounted horizontally!
This option only applies to the Tape Deck mount, but can be modified to work for the console mount as well (upon request). This horizontal mount makes sure the phone is as centered as possible across the middle of the console, and accommodates devices from a range of about 5"-6.5".

Both sides/ends of the mount feature holes for charging cables, so you can lay your phone in either landscape orientation.

UPDATE: available are now the options for the following new features:
1) flipped tape deck mounts will hold the phone over the radio controls rather than the A/C controls
2) slimmer units to hold the phone closer to the console with less play

I've purchased one of these and it is beautifully made, highly functional, and quickly delivered.

Does it allow for the phone to be held horizontally long ways? I have a Galaxy S4.

I hope so. If not i kick myself for not asking for it. *face palm*

Mine should be here in a few days i'll see if it does

Unfortunately, that was not something I had considered. I have always kept my phone mounted vertically, and didn't consider the desire to mount it otherwise. I can work to develop either a rotating model or a more universal one; currently the mounts can hold a device up to about 3inches wide, which accommodates most popular devices (mounted vertically).

I will put in the works a more universal/horizontally capable mounting model.

The horizontal option has been developed! This option only applies to the Tape Deck mount, but can be modified to work for the console mount as well (upon request). This horizontal option will cost the same as the standard. So far, there is no interchangeability between horizontal and vertical mounting positions. However, a design is being developed which may include this possibility for the tape deck mount.

*this option was not tested in a tape deck yet because I dont have access to one, but is the same 'tape' dimensions as the vertical mount

Just emailed you about the horozontal tape deck mount.

Can you make sure it will accommodate my iPhone 6plus?

Received my Tape Deck mount and love it. Only comment is that the part that holds the iPhone6+ could be made a little slimmer since its almost big enough to hold 2 phones stacked, but I think I will appreciate that design in the future if I plan to put a different phone designs there. This does the trick for me: hold the phone horozontally to be used as a navi unit while not forcing me to cut into my dash to mount a 2DIN headunit or clip something to my vents or windshield.

Bravo!

Looks great! Nice to see that people are still innovating for our cars.
A question on the tape-deck mount- is the angle of the phone adjustable? Just seems to me that parallell to the console it would pick up some reflections.

Angle is non-adjustable.

I also placed some Dollarstore stick on carpet pieces (table leg floor protectors) so the holder won't rub against mt dash and HVAC knobs.

Glad it's working out for you, Oyagi!

The reason the unit has so much depth is exactly what you said: so in case you ever put a thicker device in the unit, you will have the space.

If you guys have any suggestions on what I can do for the angle or the rear of the unit to prevent some of the rubbing against the dash knobs/buttons, let me know! It's hard for me to test and know what's happening without having a tape deck. I am always open to suggestions/tips/requests!

As requested, new slimmer versions of the GPS holders are available. The originals were meant to be suitable for a very large range of devices (including thickness), while the new ones are much slimmer and will have less play for the common smartphone device. When ordering, make sure to specify what your main device is and I will ensure a good fit.
Additionally, a flipped version of both the horizontal and vertical tape deck mounts is available. This will hold the devices over the radio controls rather than the air conditioning. I can't provide any pictures of this in the vehicle because I dont have access to an NSX with a tape deck
