Has anyone been able to upgrade their USA-Spec PA11-HON to bluetooth?

A couple doo-dads will allow it;

Bluetooth receiver;

Something to power it in the car;

A female cig lighter plug to hardwire, if you don't want to solder onto the cig lighter adapter itself;
(use only the female part of this of course)
http://www.amazon.com/Evelots-Cigar...=1454197228&sr=1-8&keywords=female+cig+socket

And an RCA cable;
http://www.amazon.com/Stinger-1-5-F...id=1454197289&sr=1-20&keywords=rca+cable+1+ft

Combine all that and you'll be set! The RCA goes from the bluetooth receiver output to the interface's RCA inputs.

Thanks Clutch but this all sounds like a bunch of excess of cost and work. Maybe I should just jettison the USA-Spec and buy a GROM...do you agree?

Or, wait for it... I could run the bluetooth from the new iPhone to the old iPhone 4s. The iPhone 4s would be connected to the USA-Spec gizmo...and voila! I would have internet radio.

Go ahead, clap so I can take a bow.

Or, someone shoot that idea down.

If that's possible between the two of them, that would work perfect!

IIRC the GROM has A2DP built in if you get the appropriate version, so if for some reason the Iphone -> Ipod streaming doesn't do it and you didn't want to fiddle with a bunch of parts to enable the USAspec, then yea GROM for sure.

Well, I could not get my two iPhones to connect to each other (4S and 6 Super).

So, I am going to run a hard wire from the unit to the iPhone (hardwire being the sound wire).

If you go for a Grom you can have Bluetooth, hands free phone, IPhone/IPod tunes and charging , and a USB stick for tunes as well.
All the connections can be run to the center console so no external wires showing

Plus the GROM works with the Zublin Smartenna and updating the GROM software is super easy. I recently updated my software and it works even better than before.

I called USA Spec at 001-626-336 3836 in early January 2016 to ask which Bluetooth audio receiver the PA11-HON is compatible with.

They said the PA-11HON needs to receive a digital signal through its 30 pin docking connector in the form of an Apple-specification serial data communication protocol and they aren't aware of any aftermarket Bluetooth receiver that does that.

However, USA Spec are working on a Bluetooth add-on which will attach via the PA11-HON's RCA inputs and does not require a battery or any additional wiring. That should be out in February 2016. Since I'm happy with my PA11-HON, I'm going to wait to see how that turns out.

Thanks, Greenberet, one of my options was to use a straight line-in cord. While looking for the wire, I realized I still had my tape adapter and simply lined-in with that. Bluetooth really is the way to go. I think on that note, GROM has USA-Spec beat. Considering it is already Feb 2016, I suppose I can wait a few weeks to see. February is a short month anyway. ;)

Hello all. I'm in the same boat. Would love to know if the Bluetooth add-on is available yet? I checked their website but didn't see anything. Thanks all!!

I just called USA Spec again (001-626-336 3836 in case you want to contact them yourself) and they said the Bluetooth adapter for the PA11-HON should be out in the first or second week of May, 2016. If you send an eMail to [email protected], you can request to be put on their mailing list to receive information about the Bluetooth adapter when it becomes available.

Awesome. Thanks for the info greenberet! I've just emailed them. I'll provide an update once the product is released. Looking forward to it! =)

Just a heads up: USA Spec told me that their Bluetooth adapter is now available for sale. It's called the BT45-AUX, has an MSRP of $115, and plugs into the RCA jacks of the PA11-HON and a 12V power source.

I just upgraded to the new GROM USB-3. and couldn't be happier with it. many choices for audio. USB thumb drive, ipod, iphone (all generations), android, 3.5mm AUX jack, and bluetooth phone and audio streaming. I even use google maps, internet radio and waze with audio direction instructions and it interfaces with the OEM head unit perfectly. all connected to the OEM head unit. and interfaces with my Zublin Smartenna.
I use a dedicated ipod for my audio, and my phone interfaces by bluetooth all at the same time. For OEM head unit integration, I would give it a 9.9/10.
