Who here has had direct experience with having their cars vinyl wrapped?

I am considering having mine wrapped with a high-lustre black vinyl wrap.

Am curious how close to OEM it will be. I am not changing the car color.

Feedback or thoughts?

Glad to answer an specific questions. Did you visit any local shops to see wraps on any cars? Or go to a local car meet. Samples and pictures don't do the wraps justice.

I know you want black, but you also have an opportunity to do a color change without any drawbacks. Its like getting a new car! Then when you get tired of it just have it removed.

I used gloss black wrap on my front Wings West spoiler to have a "flexible" finish (that would not star/crack/crows feet) and to protect...it has worked well. BUT, you cannot cheat on prep...and blemishes/bumps/cracks/imperfections will show under the vinyl.

How did they do on the door jams and engine/trunk? Can you post some pics of those areas?

car looks incredible - great color choice

Realized I don't have any pics of those areas to show the seams. I will take some tonight and post them.

Basically you need to decide what you want. Full wrap that does the under hood, jams, trunk, engine bay, etc which will cost more and take the shop more time. Or do the outside always visible parts only.

Myself, I have a black car so pretty much any color against that background would look good. Hence when you open the doors, hood or trunk the seam of the wrap and color transition doesn't look bad at all. The installer cut and folded the wrap around those edges to make it look very uniform. I kind of like how the black accents the orange. However, if you have a different base color you really need to brush up on your complementary/non-complementary color knowledge. It could end up being a real eye-sore and stand out a lot. Plus consider the new color against your interior.

Some good photos of a full wrap are on Valhalla's thread post #50 and #51 . That wrap looks awesome. He had a black car too and in my mind he didn't have to do a full, but that was his personal preference and it looks great. Should give you a good idea of how good they can come out.

Alright, took pics of the various areas where the wrap ends. Again depends on your preference on full wrap or not.

That is a really clean job. I see what you mean about the underlying color being so critical. Looks like a great job!
