Worth to Fix?

Hi guys,

Need a bit of advice. I just purchased a pretty mint (accident free, low kms) NSX from Japan to be shipped to Hong Kong. However, upon landing, some monkey with a forklift at the terminal ran into the car and dropped cargo on it. Damage seems to be purely cosmetic. I'm left with with the option of fixing it (the shipping company will provide under insurance), or getting a 100% refund.

Attached pictures. What do you guys think? Think it's worth to fix? I suppose they will try to source new aluminum panels and headlight assembly rather than fixing it.

I would go with option 2 and utilize the Honda Refresh program if possible to avoid low quality work. I know they have a paint shop and body panels as part of the refresh. Looks to my eye to just be body panel and paint damage which isn't that big of a deal.

Is this a Type S?

That looks like a relatively easy fix.

That front part of your fender is directly where it meets the frame of the vehicle for mounting. You can kind of see the frame damage, as it pushed the headlight assembly up and out. Be a tough one to say without inspection under the fender. Looks iffy to me though. There is frame right under that section.

I would get a quote from someone who has a reputable body shop, tough to determine from photos.If you like the looks of an 02+ front end now would be a perfect time to upgrade.I also hope the monkey fork lift operator has been returned to the jungle.

I would go for option 2 and buy the car back from them for cheaper price.

Thanks all for the comments and advice. I'm not sure if I want to ship back the car to Japan where I can't over see the shop and quality. Plus I'm not really sure the insurance would pay for the bill from Honda.

The first quotation for the NSX came to $69,400HKD ($8900USD). Replacing the fender, hood, bumper and headlight / hdlight assembly. Ouch.

Would you guys say the prices are similar in North America?

The bodyshop guy is going to come with me to the terminal today to check for frame damage and reply me lead time for parts from Japan. If there's frame damage or too long of a wait for parts, I'll let her go.

If there is no frame damage I say fix her up. However it may have some small damage. Get it looked at. If there is none about $8K - $10K seems right.

Hi guys. Unfortunately for me upon visual inspection from a mechanic, there was slight damage to the 'subframe' and not just the panels (fender, bumper, hood, headlight). I don't know if subframe is the correct term in english. Even thought he was sure it would not effect the integrity of the car, both the mechanic and the importer advised against taking ownership of the NSX as I paid for a accident free one. It will never be the same after repair. I'm going to go with option 3 and get a refund... Back on the market now looking for another NSX!
