A brief update this week

The NSX Specialist did not know about the Michelin Pilot Experience that was recently held so no idea what NSX they used for the event.

The Specialist knows about the car crashed in LA. The owner has put a ton of miles on the car and loves it (5000 miles in the first month and a lot more since then).

The car had the Contis on it.

Weather not a factor (zoom zoom vroom vroom).

The car hit a wall, took some damage to the front box of the frame including some bending to one side. It spun around, tapped the bumper and as the bumper peeled, the taillights were broken. Doors and rear fenders untouched.

He was there with the insurance adjuster. Unsure at this point if it will be totaled or go back to Ohio for a rebuild.

Acura targets a 30 day time line for a rebuild.

BUT, they have not even practiced a rebuild, none of the equipment has ever been used, if it goes back expect them to go slowly and carefully and have engineering folks doing a lot of checking out things (i.e. no 30 day an back on the road), plus who knows if parts are available to do the job.

The adjuster quipped that if the car is totaled he expects to see the motor in a Civic.
 
Presumably the "repairability" of the car will feed back into the insurance rates we all pay. For that reason, I sure hope they don't total it.

OTOH, if I were the owner and there was a chance to get a new one instead of dealing with a >30 day repair cycle and the record of a major repair, I'd be pushing hard for it to be totaled.
 
Question: On these newer cars which technically have black boxes. Does the adjuster have any access to it in the event of a total loss crash? I remember reading somewhere that you could actually download from the obd2 port on a gtr just how many times it was launched, set to track mode, etc. Does the nsx 2.0 have that ability?

Also, there was no info regarding if the driver was cited for something

Me thinks the insurance company will inflict some ouch to him for this

I have the sense that this was not the guy's only toy so he is not likely to be doing without for the moment

But there is plenty of stuff that gets stored in the various control modules. And yes, I can see how many launch control starts have been done. Or if the PCM was just reflashed to stock because some kind of aftermarket tune was in there and caused a problem.

From what I have seen, I.E. Progressive they have obd2 spying devices which can either liberate or hinder a driver if they so choose to sign that contract. Just curious what the new nsx 2.0 guys use for insurance. What they pay, etc. As I have said before, I am not turned totally off by the car. It's just out of my reach. I know one thing, a turbo Porsche is one of the most expensive cars to insure. These are things I research when buying a new car. Any advice here would be great for me or anyone else who may consider a gen 2.0. Thanks...

Ive seen some of those silly things. All in the name of saving 5% or whatever on your premiums, you arm the insurance company with a tool to help them deny a claim to you. By using what is essentially a OBDII scanner and the customers phone, they learn how fast you are going and where you're doing it.

Exactly. Wife is lawyer so we decline on these sort of traps.... I fear though, that technology will prevent people from tapping into the power they pay for via technology. It's all big brother in my opinion....

Of the 167 new ones listed, 53 are over $200k

another 35 cars are between $190k and $200k

another 33 are no price listed and I would suspect almost all are high spec cars

and 5 show MSRP around the no CF brake price, so I expect these are also high spec cars

so basically 3/4 of the cars sitting have too high a spec
 
between our last allocation which arrived just before thanksgiving, to the arrival of our next one (mid-Feb), they made ~290 cars per the VIN. not sure yet what the plaque will show.

Love driving in quiet mode while looking for a parking spot.
The car is in electric mode and people wonder how it can move with no noise.

The driving position is the same as the Gen 1 but the new one is considerably wider.
Nonetheless very comfortable and familiar.
Pleased to announce no R8's, 911 TT's, or 570's beat me to a parking spot today.

My dealer Zimbrick in WI just got their second car in, black on black with red calipers

they are at MSRP and I belive this is a lower spec car

if anyone is looking for a car, these folks are awesome to work wth
