The world famous Sierra Madre 4th of July Parade and NSX's

I live in Sierra Madre (which is a small town located on the east boarder of Pasadena), and every year since I moved to Sierra Madre, 34 years ago, I've attended the Sierra Madre 4th. of July parade. It’s one of those Americana traditions where half the town folk is in the parade and rest of the town folk are spectators.

The parade runs for a little over an hour, and includes your traditional small town parade entries, i.e., convertible cars carrying the mayor, council members, and local elected officials. There are always cars carrying the Sierra Madre Citizen of the year, there is the Sierra Madre City College Band (no such college exists but the band has played every hear since I have attended the parade), and there are several local cub scout, boy scout and girl scout troops, Sierra Madre Little League baseball teams, live bands on the back of a flatbed truck, and so on an so on.

Oh, and there is always a political statement float. This year a Donald Trump look-a-like was standing next to a sign stating that Mexico has agreed to build "the wall" which is being erected behind Trump and consists of many stacked Corona beer boxes.

Lastly, there is always a good showing of vintage cars including Ford Model T’s, a real Hudson Hornet, Buick's, DeLoreans and lastly muscle cars including Corvettes, Mustangs and Camaros. This last category got me thinking. Next year I'm going to start a thread here on Prime requesting volunteers to run a group of NSX's in the 2017 Sierra Madre 4th. of July parade. The parade starts at 10:00 AM and ends around 12:00 PM. After the parade, all participating NSX’ers can come over to Sally's and my house for an early BBQ, which would end around 4:00 PM. That would leave the rest of the day and evening for you to participate in your normal 4[SUP]th[/SUP]. of July activities.

Anyway, July 4[SUP]th[/SUP], 2017 is a long ways away, but come next May, I'll start a thread looking for participants in the parade. I think it will be a lot of fun, particularly when spectators shout out, “nice Corvette”, or “is that a Ferrari?”

If you think you would be interested in participating in the parade, state so here in this thread or shoot me a PM!

Thanks,

Mario

Sounds fun.

Dumb question Mario. Does the parade always happen on the 4th no matter the day of the week?

Good question! For some reason I remember one year, a long time ago, the parade was not held on the 4th but on the day before the 4th. July 4th 2017 falls on a Tuesday, so I'm not sure when the parade will be held, perhaps on Monday? I'll check to see if they have posted the 2017 parade date, and get back to you!

Seems like it could be a fun event, although, I imagine for most it is quite far out to be mentioning this.

Just planting the thought that this will be a supper fun event, and to gauge interest.

I'll post next year when the 4th comes along again!

Best,

Mario

Great, I'll put you on the list. When the time comes, let me know if you are going solo, or if you will have a passenger, so that I know how food and drink to get for the BBQ afterwards!

thanks Mario, I will be going either with my son or my wife on that day.

We are getting close to May 1 when registration opens for parade participants. To refresh your memory, every year the City of Sierra Madre (my home town) puts on a good old fashion 4th of July Parade. In the past, various car clubs have participated in the parade, but never NSX's! Several of you expressed an interest last year when I first posted this thread in joining me in driving in the parade with our NSX's. The parade this year will be on July 4th starting at 10:00 AM, but participants are required to line up at their designated locations an hour or so earlier. The Parade takes about 30 minutes or so to complete. After the parade you are invited back to my home for breakfast, or you can go on your merry way. So, I'm starting a list of here on prime and will make an announcement on FaceBook too! This will be a fun event and it won't take your whole day/evening if you have other plans later in the day/evening.

To make things simple. Here is the waiver from the official website.

I am wondering why no motorcycles are allowed when cars are.

That is interesting, they must have had problems with motorcycles in past parades. They also require high performnce cars to be on a trailer and the engine cannot be started. I remember that NACAR race was intered into the parade, and the driver would accerlate in short burst which appeared to bbe very unsafe and scared kids.
