I currently have aluminium lug nuts, They are a major brand like Kics but i was told Aluminium lugs are a no go for track because you can't get them tight enough without damaging them.

What do people recommend?

Would like something lighter than oem

Cool looking

Secure, special key required.

Preferable open ended so i can run APR long bolts when i get round to installing them.

Wow, the first one is a "Advan Racing - Racing Lug Nuts". Score! $52 for a pack of 4, or $260 a set!

Personally, as one who also tracks, I've had great luck with these type of Spline Lugnuts. $25 a set (comes with 4 spare lug nuts!!!). They're cold forged steel.

Here's a $40 set of open ended ones:

Here's Gorilla brand for $31

That's cheap. I'm looking at the $785 titanium ones.

Do it!!!
Better yet, but 2 sets each of the ones I recommended and give me the remaining $655. That way you'll not only have 4 sets of lug nuts but also a new friend!

Found this thread post about different material types of lug nuts. I found it pretty interesting:

I agree with Hapa88. The aluminum lug nuts are rip offs... I had several sets. Rays formula, kics r40's, and just recently I tried a budget brand gorilla. If you plan on mounting the wheels 1 time, go for it. If anything else, dont beleive the hype. You will strip those fancy and shiney lugs every single time you remove the wheels. Unless your a weakling and cannot produce more than 40 ft pounds to torqe.

I have titanium ones from ozmo engineering. haven't tracked them yet but they are a good buy if you want titanium. $150 for the set

Do NOT use aluminum lug nuts. I learned the hard way as to why. Lost a wheel right off the launch/first left turn on an autox run. Fortunately it was low speed and only cosmetic damage that I was able to "fix" and no issues. The threads on the lug nuts stripped and they all came off and the wheel with it. I know many others use aluminum lug nuts, even the very same ones I used, and are fine, but they should be considered a regular wear item and replaced often. But it's not worth the risk for a measly few ounces. There's plenty of weight to lose elsewhere on any car that will net more significant results than a few lug nuts. Play it safe and don't risk losing your car or life over a few ounces of weight.

The stripped lugs. Before/after shot of fender damage. That was it.. Just bent the fender back into place and removed a few tire scuff marks.

I bought Gorilla open ended lugs for my other cars after. Strong and since they short open ended, still relatively light. I feel much more comfortable with these.

The only lug nuts I would use would be ones with a rotating seat for accurate torque and also to not damage the wheel lug holes as much. I think Mcgard makes a spline drive that may be listed which I used to have. I would recommend picking up an extra key though since I think I broke one before.

I've recently been using project kics r40 and am happy. Both have a rotating seat and that's the main reasons why I choose them over others.

Those look great. Are you running spacers? Looks like extended studs would go nicely with the lug nuts. Curious to see how they hold up.

Yep, I personally run McGards (specifically these https://www.amazon.com/McGard-65557...ef=sr_1_2?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1472910835). OEM supplier, made in USA, and my set were free from a friend who ordered the wrong ones

No spacers but I am running Stoptechs so the offset is pretty low. Definitely need longer studs, right now I'm at about 8 turns which is minimum. Not looking forward to the install though :)

I was looking at these because the ends spin as mentioned above but they have not released the locking set yet.

They also come in titanium but the end doesn't spin i don't think.

They don't quote any weights but guessing they will be lighter than the Kics R40's which are a similar design with floating hats.

Color choice is a bit limited though.
