no doubt, it's been said before... but, I'll raise this question anew. Re-shoeing my NSX with 17X8.5/18X9.5" Tecnos, and considering using Toyo RA-1. Looks like the size options are 205/40/17 front and 275/35/18 rear. I'd like to use a 215 in front, but, does not appear to be available. Opinions on this fitment? TCS/ABS compatibility? Thanks, players.

I only see a 235/40R17 for the RA-1 which will most likely rub in the front but ignoring that, your short answer: 205/40R17 (23.5" diameter) and 275/35R18 (25.6") are very similar in diameter to the '91 OEM diameters 205/50R15 (23.2") and 225/50R16 (25.7") so you should have no issues with TCS/ABS compatibility.

Another consideration are the widths of your wheels will also factor in in determining your ideal tire size. You want the measure tread width on the particular tire to be slightly less (0.1-0.5") than the width of the wheel for an ever so slight stretch on the tire. For example, if you wanted to run a 275/35R18 Toyo RA-1 which a tread width of 10.4", your ideal wheel width is 10.5".

Here's great reading material on the subject:

Mark I'll be on my second track set for sebring which is 235/40/17 ..275/35/18 ra1......

sounds good, Doc. What wheels are you using then? With the 235 fronts, how much steering lock do you lose? I know from experience with my Porsche and also on my existing plus sized 16/17s on the NSX, one can't use about 10% of full lock.

I have the fan shrouds out...only rubs on full lock wheels are enkei rpf1.....also use ssr type c

excellent, thanks for the info Doc.
PS, I've got some spare SSRs: 2 17s" and 1 18". The other 18 is broken. Need? Make offer. Cheap.
