04 Shift Knob / Boot Removal

Hi there,

Does anyone have any advice for getting an 04 NSX shift knob and boot detached.

My aspirator fan is buzzing, and everything has come apart nicely except the shift knob and boot. There's lots of advice for the <04 shift knob and boot, but I've been pretty stumped.

You should be able to just push down on the boot so it unclips from the shifter knob I believe. It may need a bit of prying with a plastic prying tool.

I don't think there are clips on the 04+ knob, though I can't be sure.

I can't even unscrew the knob, either its completely seized or I'm doing something wrong... I think I'm going to break it if I try any harder.

I see. Looking at some 04 shirt knobs I do not see any clips. Do you have a small strap wrench? If there are no clips than it should unscrew.

I think you probably have a locking nut below the boot. Try lifting up the console and boot to check underneath.

The shift knob just unscrews. As far at the boot, lift and turn it just under the knob. It should detach easily.

Thanks Jinks, the locking nut was the key. Once I found a thin enough wrench to loosen it, then the knob came off
