Question about fitment 17/18 advan wheels

Hi Prime,

I have a 95 NSX-T with advan model 5 wheels lowered on bilstein lower perch and oem springs. I bought the wheels from another prime member a few years ago.

I am rubbing in the front on 3/4 turn and rubbing really badly when I take a hard turn at full lock. I need advice on ways to stop the rubbing. It rubs on the outside of the inner plastic lining.

One theory is to get a thinner tire. The tires look stretched on the wide wheels right now so I'd like to make it look a little better by covering the entire rim if possible.

Here are the specs of the current set up:

The wheels are 17x8+30 and 18x10+19, pretty rare aggressive offsets, tires are currently 215/40-17 and 255/35-18.

I think the 215/35 will give me a better chance at fixing the rubbing issue, but I think the 225/35 will look better.

1. What do you guys think? Which tire would be better to solve my problem? I talked to many shops and they said spacers won't fix it because of the offset. Do you have any other ideas on how to fix the rubbing?

2. My rear tires need replacing. I'm thinking either 265/35/18 or 275/35/18. 265 will still look stretched, 275 should cover the rim fully, but may cause rubbing. 265 will be lighter, but 275 will look better if it doesn't rub. Does anyone have either set up and do they rub using these sizes?

The reason you're rubbing is the aggressive offsets. You have the correct tire sizes however, so keep it 215/40/17. Recommend switching the fronts to a +38 to +45 offset and your problems will disappear.

Your theory about running a wider tire is most likely not going to give you the results you're after. Due to the larger section width, the problem will most likely be WORSE.

Here are the ways to fix your problem:
1) Get the proper (less aggressive) front wheel which is a 17x8 wheel in a +38 to +45 offset
2) Modify your fender liner. I modified mine making a small slit at the 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock positions and taking that section and tucking it behind the lip of the fender. It ends up similar to this:

3) Remove the fender liner completely (Not recommended as many people get reverse rock chips in their fenders by doing this).

As for the rears, I'd only go 265 with those offsets. 275 will run the risk of rubbing. Again the problems you're experiencing are do to the aggressive offsets chosen for the wheels. I'd recommend a 18x9.5 +25 to +35, or a 18x10 +30 to +40 to keep it safe, driveable and flush.

I have Advan RGIII (Front = 17x8 +37, Rear = 18x10 +35) and no rubbing at all. [MENTION=11581]Hapa88[/MENTION] is correct - your offsets are too aggressive.

I'm assuming your only real problem is the front (even though the rear may have some "poke")

Three things:

- What brand and model of tire are you running? (some are inherently wider or narrower).

- You may be able to have the front wheel machined to at least a 35mm offset or more (maybe even 37mm).

- You could also run a 205/40/17 which may not be optimal and may cause TCS issues (I have run it in the past and had zero issues) if you choose a tire which is sticker than average, you should not have any reduction in grip.
