the McLaren 720S - with Bruno and Ayrton Senna

Very nice. To me, this advert with the Senna connection and car dressed with a black top is more reminiscent of the NA1 NSX than what I've seen of the Gen 2 NSX

Very nice. That's the way to do it - trade on motorsport credentials and real heritage (even when there isn't much, when you think about it). A very appealing advert.

Is this comparable to the NC1 ? - at a price premium (in the UK at least) of 50%, I think not. Other markets might vary. To me it is many, many steps above.

There was a rumour a couple of years ago (maybe more) that Honda & McLaren were going to be collaborating on a (lesser) road car. Anyone have anything to share on this?

I like the gambling reference, raise your limits.

The high rollers that buy these cars must also be customers of gambling establishments.

I think they're gambling whether their McLaren will be a lemon or not.

I visit mclaren life some, it seems like stuff goes wrong that leads to fluid on the garage floor, doors not working correctly and some electronics gremlins but they do not appear to be junk.

Would I buy one, no, but I am pretty conservative. If I was getting into that price point, I would be looking for that lightly used LFA.

I really like the 570S.

I have been finding that the NSX is so much more car than I could ever get the max out of, going for a 720S would be too risky to use for me.

McLarens are WAY over engineered (I guess the curse of being an F1 company). They rely far to much on software for things that could be mechanical or embedded. When things go wrong, they go really wrong and take a long time to debug (back in the UK).

I am talking about hose clamps and sensors failing, nothing too esoteric

One guy had a plate rattling on the underside, looked like hastily installed bolts without locktite

The black canopy reminds me of another car that I love. :) But raising the limits at 9/10's at night on a dimly lit track without a helmet took me a little out of the fantasy....unless he was chasing after the drop-dead supermodel with perfect makeup who slammed her helmet glass down aggressively when pushing to the limits in the Gen-2 commercial, in order to borrow her helmet. Oh Madison Avenue. :)

I absolutely believe it is, advertising companies do not communicate randomly.

These companies know their customers and what they like to spend their time doing.

High rollers that like the latest and greatest and flip from one to the other love gambling.

I was on Mclaren life and one guy traded a 16 GT3RS and a 17 Targa 4S for a 570S. He got cash back but can you imagine how much damage he did to himself on that play?

I take it you don't know who was speaking or who was driving the car in the ad...?

At the casino, gamblers can "raise their bets," but not "raise their limits," no? I mean other than moving to a table with higher limits....

I am old folk and enjoyed many days watching Ayrton do what only he could do, so yes I know Bruno behind the wheel, etc.

I get the the first connection from the phrase relates to the driver having a vehicle in the 720S that will allow them to explore higher driving performance limits.

i just think that the tricky ad folks are creating multiple images for the potential buyers here.

maybe analysing the commercial a wee bit too much Yinz?

I know. :) It's all in fun, and in part just trying for some comic relief. I get a bit hyper vigilant like Adam Carolla at times to things I find kind of silly and over the top, and sometimes can't hold back. For this McLaren that I kind of like, I can excuse the bit of silliness/stretch in the commercial I mentioned above, but where it's not silly enough to push me away from wanting to learn more about the McLaren. For the gen-2 whose fascia is still too polarizing for me to look beyond, I find the hottie's slamming her helmet glass/visor down in the Acura commercial a bit too over-the-top laughable and actually pushes me further away from warming up to the beak!

That, in Adam Carolla podcast-speak, is a great example of being rich enough to have "F-me money," which is a step above having enough to have "FU money."

F1 was amazing looking car. Every Mac since then...

Regardless of the new McLaren reputation, that was a really good advertisement tho, probably my favorite thus far, ever in the history of car commercials.
