We have had quite a few owners ask us if the 2017 NSX wheel can fit on the older generation.

Since we have one here getting prototype work we wanted to share some of our findings to the community so hopefully everyone finds this insightful.

Gen 1 NSX steering wheel as most of you know or have, it's a very large wheel. It was designed in the 90's and has that 90's feel. Whether good or bad, love it or hate it, it is an iconic part of the NSX's history.

Features:

- No faceplate design, the wheel is just one piece with the airbag
- Horns are individual pieces on the left and right which tend to wear over age
- Cruise Control is a separate item bolted on (*note the horn does not work with the cruise control is missing)
- Stock wheel diameter is roughly 380mm making this one of the largest wheels on a sports car
- Very deep hub design with spline
- Very thin grip
- OEM leather wears over time to be very slippery typical of most Honda

Gen 2 NSX wheel is most similar to the modern McLaren sports car for those of you have driven or touched the steering wheel. It's no longer a round cylindrical wheel as the top and bottom is more flat than round. The wheel is also much smaller in diameter, lighter in in weight and overall feels more sporty. Acura designed the new wheel to be modular like most modern steering wheels you find on BMW, Audi, etc. The wheel employs a faceplate design with separate more compact airbag assembly. The leather on the factory wheel is also much higher quality. Only time will tell how it wears.

Features:

- Flattened cylindrical shape at the top of the grip. (imagine a round tube that has been crushed) very McLaren like
- Sport grips at the 3 and 9 position
- Flat bottom design
- Super light weight design
- The spline is much more shallow in line with other cars such as the s2000 (wonder if it will fit?)
- Acura offers an optional CF faceplate but not many other options such as contrast stitching color or other material options (Alcantara, Carbon, Perforated leather, etc)

Our plan is to completely strip this new 2nd gen NSX wheel and test fit it on the 1st gen NSX as well as the sister car (s2000).

Should be a fun experiment so stay tuned and if you have questions feel free to post here or PM us!

Will be throwing both steering wheels on the scale in the upcoming months and do some other tests so if there's anything you are curious about just let us know....

thanks!
