No warranty for clear bra damage.

I had a 3m clear bra installed 2 monts ago and love it.
The bugs come right off when you spray it with the hose.
I got a stone ding today at 150mph it pierced the film and wrinkled it up.
It didnt do any damage to the car, infact the stone was stuck into the film. I called the company who gives the so called warranty, they said they wont cover it. I read the things that they will cover and if you read the fine print they cover NOTHING!
There is to many ways for them to get out of paying you for damage. All I wanted is for them to recover the pice that was damaged.
Even the installer said he has never got them to cover any kind of damage.

There's a difference between covering a product for defects in workmanship or product quality, and covering a product for damage caused externally that the manufacturer cannot be responsible for. Next you're going to tell us that you would expect them to replace the film under warranty if your car was in a crash.

This is not a defect in the film's manufacture or installation. It's your responsibility, not theirs.

Isn't the reason you bought it was to protect your cars finish? Sounds like it did a heck of a job doing just that.

It did do the job and then some. They show a nail pushing into the clear 3m plastic and it does not poke through.
That is verry impresive and one of the reasons I bought it.
I dont think the stone should have made a hole in it, considering the nail didnt. Thats my postion and I just wanted to let other people know the warranty is all fluff.

Dont you have anything nice to say?
Do you even have a clear bra on you car?
Do you even have a copy of the warranty?
    If so read it again.

What, exactly, is "not nice" about what I said? All I said was that damage to your car and its equipment from road hazards is your responsibility (or your insurance company's), not that of the manufacturer of the car or equipment. That is "not nice"? I suppose you think that only opinions that agree with yours are "nice" and anyone who doesn't agree with you is being "not nice"? And only those who agree with you should post here?

I respect your position. A few questions:
    1. Do you have a copy of the warranty? If yes, provide the text that you feel is in coflict. Or, better yet the entire warranty.
    2. Did you read it fully before purchase?
    3. Did a company official imply something other than what the warranty states?
    4. What do you feel is proper compensation?

Wow, no damage to the car at 150mph...impressive! I imagine at that speed the nail would also pierce the film.

I don't know what your warranty states, but here is what mine says, and the way I interpret it I wouldn't expect to be compensated for damage to either the film or the car from a rock chip. Merely the fact that the film did its job and protected the body panel would be good enough for me. JMO.

At that speed I think the nail would pierce the HOOD.

[Merely the fact that the film did its job and protected the body panel would be good enough for me]

    I see your point.

Maybe we can use the 3M material to protect the door from getting dings! Wonder if 3M makes a kit for the doors?

I think the material is too thin to provide much protection against dings. Its purpose is to prevent small impacts that would chip the paint, not the larger impacts that would ding/dent the metal.

Fortunately, door dings are usually removable by a good paintless dent repair professional.

It would probably prevent some paint from coming off thou. It's kind of a good idea IMO.

I agree. I had a piece of stone hit the side of the passenger door while driving and made a small ding. I think if the door had the film covering it, the ding would have been much smaller or may not even be there, just like the original post by prova4re. I was told it would cost about $45 to pop out the ding.

that really sucks, but at that speed, even tiny particles can cause damage. That's why you see paperclips buried into trees after a tornado, it's all about the speed baby!!!

This is why cops wear "bullet-resistant" vest now, not "bullet-proof" even with the best protection, nothing is 100% fool proof. Paint protection film is designed to provide the same level of protection as a traditional vinyl car bra, and I assure you that you will also not find a vinyl car bra that comes with a warranty for damage from road debris either, there are just too many variables out there on the road to reliably predict how every peice of debris will impact your car. But really, these cases are far and few in between, the vast majority of the chips scrathes and general "sand-blasting" that your cars going to pick up are easily absorbed by the 3M material. Dont let this discourage anyone from protecting your car, just as ther are always bullets heavy enough to go through a vest, its no reason not to wear one if you think your going to get shot at

If anyone has any questions about paint protection film feel free to drop us a line!

No shrinking violets on this site!

At the risk of butting in, I agree with Ken on the apportioning of resonsibility. I for one will put the 3M film on my car. The product earns its keep if it prevents the little wounds from occuring.

I am glad to see that as a prospective new owner, no one in this forum holds back!
