Here is a quick DIY for installing a Honda NSX-R mesh shift boot and Rapid billet shift knob.

While other aftermarket knobs will allow the leather or NSX-R mesh boot to fall down the shaft, the Rapid shift knob has the unique feature of using the factory clip-in mechanism to keep the boot propped up.

Whether you're using the factory leather shift knob, or the Rapid shift knob, here's a quick tip on how to keep the NSX-R mesh shift boot clipped into the knob to maintain a factory look.

1. remove center console (click below on a DIY to help you take care of this):

2. remove from car, and flip around on soft surface

3. remove leather boot (3 screws)

4. Reverse leather shift boot, and cut the plastic tie band with wire cutters. This will release the metal clip from the boot. Reverse NSX-R mesh shift boot to expose plastic tie band. Remove this tie band as it is made to grip the shaft, and is too small for the ring.

5. Install metal clip into mesh shift boot while reversed. Push the clip through the boot so that it is approximately flush with the top of the mesh fold. Using a plastic tie, thread tie into existing holes in boot seem. Align the tie band to the groove in the plastic clip. Fasten down.

6. Reverse boot and screw into center console. The clip will now be flush with the boot. You can also transfer the 6-spd badge if you have a 6-spd at this time.

7. Replace center console.

To demonstrate how the clip works with the Rapid shift knob, here are some picts:

You should now be good to go! Little touches like the NSX-R shift boot, shift knob, and ScienceofSpeed carbon dash kit really give a modernization to the cabin. Here's a pict of the final product:

what happens if a couple of those tabs are broken?? :frown: i dont know what to do now because the knob wont grab the little ring piece cause a couple of the tabs are broken.

well so far i solves the problem with tape so it would fit tightly  we'l see how long it holds out. thanx for the suggestion and that might be what i have to do if tape doesnt satisfy.
