tire repair facilities

Where do you folks that require tire repair bring them to? I live in the San Francisco/Oakland bay area and recently had a flat requiring repair and brought it to a chain store that did good work for me in the past on performance tires. OF COURSE since i had just purchased my new VOLKS something had to happen! They managed to scratch up the edges in two distinct places. I spoke with the manager who apologized and offered to send the rims out for repair, but who do you guys trust (especially in the bay area) and are there more specialized machines that do the work that i should look for?

I heard that the plug/patch combo is the best type of product to patch holes (assuming they are repairable i.e. not too big and in the right area of the tire).
