    I was looking on ebay and saw this. When does the vtec kick in on the nsx? THanks

    Apexi VTEC-AFC. It Modifies manifold pressure signal and alters VTEC engagement point on Honda VTEC engines; Vacuum Fluorescent Display (VFD).

    A'PEX introduces the first digital fuel computer that combines fuel computer functions with a VTEC engagement controller. The V-AFC features a user-definable, eight-point, adjustable fuel curve that can be set in 500 RPM increments. The range of fuel adjustment is +/- 50% at each of the user-defined setting points. The Fuel Adjustment function considers wide/narrow throttle and low/high camshaft settings, from which four different fuel maps are created (wide-low, wide-high, narrow-low, narrow-high). The integrated VTEC Controller adjusts the point at which the engine switches from the Lo to Hi cam during acceleration, as well as when the engine switches from the Hi to Lo cam during deceleration.

    It was always my understand that VTEC on the NSX kicks in between 5800-6200rpm, depending on environmental factors...no?

    Is there any advantage or disadvantage of making it kick in earlier? I know all the prelude owners run these things. Wasn't sure if it would hurt the nsx engine to kick it in as say 5000rpm.

    Not unless you've got some serious mods (e.g. forced induction).

    On the NSX, changing the VTEC point really doesn't do anything...probably make performance WORSE from what I've seen...this is on a NA motor...not sure what you can do on the FI motor.

    If you make it kick in too low, all you do is give up the leverage of the low-speed cam lobes, and possibly lose some low-end torque.

    With the proper mods, lowering it to 5300-5500 may not hurt you much, but you have to know what you're doing (e.g., playing with A/F ratios and likely boost levels).
