    Water leak from Targa top

Has anyone ever had a problem with the seal on the targa top leaking. I was caught in the rain today in my 1998 and water started slowly dripping from the bottom of the seal along the inside top of the passenger side windshield pillar. I pulled over at a covered gas station and examined the seals and reseated the top, I could find no obvious reason for the leak. Shortly after getting back in the rain the water started leaking again.

After getting home and drying the car off I re-examined the seals and checked the fitment of the top. Once again I could not find any obvious reason for the leak. I just had my 60k service done 2 weeks ago at the dealer including lubricating the seals for noise. I would image that they would have noticed any major problems.

Doing a quick search on this site it appears that the tops are generally considered very reliable. If anyone has seen a similar issue any hints would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Hello,

I don't have this issue but I do lubricate the rubber seals quite regularly (every other time after the car has been topdown for a few hours exposed to sunlight). I use a silicone spray lubricant - spray it on a paper towel and wipe it over the seals. I think this helps to maintain the integrity of them - especially with baking in the sun, etc. that takes its toll on the rubber.

I noticed some water leak when I washed the car once but I thought I might have placed the top on improperly. Maybe the rubber seals were in such a way that water drops were able to get in??????

nsx13-what kind of spray do you use and where do you get it?

My 95 T has never leaked a drop from the roof, and we get some turd-floaters here. Go to the local Honda dealership and get a tube of their weather-strip lubricant, and say once a month, rub some onto the roof's weather-strip.

Unfortunately for Kushbudz, if his roof is already leaking, applying the Honda lube may not help if the weather-strip is already deformed or dry-rotted. If this is the case, the only remedy is new weather-strip.

Re: Water leak from Targa top

So it turned out not to be the Targa weather seal after all. The previous owner had the windshield replaced. Apparently the people who installed it did not do a very good job, the windshield was slightly shifted towards the drivers side. This allowed small amount of water to get in through the seal around the windshield. The water intern came out underneath the front weather seal near the top of the passenger side pillar.

Lesson of the day: Make sure you have your windshield replaced by people who know what they are doing.

Re: Water leak from Targa top

    Hi from NM.
The Targa top on my '98 bleeds water only if I take the
car through a touchless car wash. The down force rinse
causesa small stream near the top and front
of the driver's side window. No leak on the passenger side.

Living in the dry heat and sun of the SW, I like the idea of
using silicon on the rubber fittings around the top and
    mounts.

    Thanks for suggestion.
