The registration form and invitation brochure are in the hands of the designer, soon to be at the printer. With +95% certainty, the general registration fee will be $295 (last year's event was $290) per person and the track registration fee will be $350 (last year's event was $365, but for only two days vs three days this year) per driver.

Until you receive the NSXPO 2002 invitation material, would you please do me a favor and PRIVATE me a reply if you plan on attending. Tell me if you plan on bringing a guest (they pay too, but they do not have to be an NSXCA member) and if you plan on tracking your NSX.

The registration structure is as follows (a) $295 per person for the general event (b) additional $350 per driver for the track event (c) $425 if you want to do the track event only, no social functions but lunch at the track is included.

Thanks, Andy

PS - You know how it is in Texas - everything is bigger and better.

Forgot something - 5% discount off of the above prices if paying by check.

Aside from recovering the 2% or less credit card merchant fee, why is there still a 3% difference?

(As a side note, technically, credit card surcharges are illegal, although many peope and vendors(we don't) do charge surcharges through paypal..merchant credit card accounts...etc for accepting credit cards.)

The amount we pay is approximately equal to 5 percent.

When we looked at credit card processing, we did a survey and looked at about 20 different bank processing systems. Some had lower per-transaction fees. The one we chose had relatively high per-transaction processing fees, but had lower per-month fees and didn't require us to spend $300+ to buy an electronic imprinting machine (we enter our transactions via touch tone buttons on the telephone). Given our relatively low transaction and dollar volume, it was the best deal for the club's circumstances.

We don't pay as much for Paypal transactions as credit card transactions; Paypal charges 2.9 percent plus 30 cents per transaction. We don't bother differentiating rates for Paypal vs credit cards because it would have made the registration form more complicated. If anyone wants to pay by Paypal and wishes to take a 2 percent discount from the amount paid, you're welcome to do so. But you'll get a still better deal if you pay by check.

Not exactly. Credit card surcharges are not illegal; however, they are not permitted by the rules of the credit card companies (MasterCard and Visa). However, these companies do allow merchants to offer a discount for cash and checks.

Thus, for example, a merchant cannot tell you to pay either $100 for an item paying by cash or $105 including a $5 premium when paying by credit card. The merchant can tell you to pay either $105 for an item paying by credit card, or $100 including a $5 discount when paying by cash or check. Financially, both statements work out the same for what you pay, but the first one is banned by the credit card company rules, while the second one is not.

Bottom line:

1. The club isn't making money on the differences in payment methods, only recovering the costs we incur.

2. If you want to spend the lowest amount of money, pay by check to take advantage of the discount for doing so.
