    lost my first race.....

well im young and stupid and dont particularly beat on my nsx, but i do love to race it, and thats what it was built for and i know that street racing is a crime and dangerous but up here in Maine were you can go miles of highway without civilization your pretty much just putting you own life in danger.... Anways here it goes.
So so far on the highway ive taken out the following.
    Sti
    Evo
    numerous Mustang Gt's
    a zr-1 vette
Turboed Miata (a buddy of mine)
Fully built Honda integra type r
    mkIII supra
and many more. Nothing to outragous but some decent rides as noone im aine drives nice cars really.

So i was headed to the local track to watch a street night at Epping NH, and about 20 miles from the track I come up on a exotic looking things my buddy says is that a fiero, i proceded to smack him lol. As i got closer i realized it was a Lotus Esperit around a 98ish. Which are biturbo v8's i believe. Well i pulled up next to him and he got a very large smile on his face and bolted off so i chased him down and we kinda gave each other the stare i was at about 80mph and went from third and jumped on him a car length then he pulled on me a total of only 1 length till about 130mph then i let off. It was a very close race and a thrill to really get a chance at another exotic.

Btw when i caught up he gave me the thumbs up and i noticed a honda racing helmet in his back cabin area.

I agree, street racing is a crime and it is dangerous. I also know the highways of Maine pretty well and, you're right, nothing but lots of open space to wreck your car and hurt yourself.

But not in Epping. People live there, and the roads are tighter and busier. It's pretty stupid to drive at 130 mph around there. Hell, the race track is right there, you said it yourself. Racing is meant for the racetrack!

Bad bad boy for street racing!

You should have stuck with him. Both cars have a similar top speed, you chickened out wayyyy to soon.

On the Hayabusa, 130 mph isn't even redline in 3rd gear and there are still 3 more to go.

    ILLEGAL RACING STATS

    # Consider the following stats, compiled from a variety of national and state transportation agencies, and it's easy to see the answer is to take it to the track. In 2001, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported that police listed street racing as a factor in 135 fatal crashes. The total was up from 72 street-racing-related fatalities reported in 2000.
    # According to the California Office of Traffic Safety, more than 800 citations for illegal street racing were issued in 2001.
    # In San Diego, where the street racing problem has been termed "epidemic," 16 deaths and 31 injuries were directly related to illegal street racing in 2001. The city's attorney's office prosecuted 147 illegal street racing cases in 1999, 161 in 2000, and 290 in 2001.
    # In Florida in 2001, 7,216 citations were issued for racing on the highway.
    # In 1999, the Florida Department of Highway and Safety for Motor Vehicles reported 28 accidents related to illegal street racing, with 2 fatalities and 27 injuries. In 2000, the agency reported 39 racing accidents, with 1 fatality and 55 injuries. In 2002, there were 48 racing accidents, 1 fatality, and 60 injuries.
    # According to the NHTSA, motor vehicle accidents are the leading cause of death for people between the ages of 16 and 20.
    # The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety says 5,749 teens died in the United States from motor vehicle crash injuries in 1999.
    # Nationwide statistics show that 49 people are injured for every 1,000 who participate in illegal street racing.

As a result, city and state ordinances have been issued regarding illegal street racing. Though laws vary, here are some penalties faced by street racers:
    # You can be arrested and have your car impounded for 30 days.
    # If convicted of street racing or aiding and abetting a street race, you can be imprisoned for up to three months and fined up to $1,000. Spectators are subject to penalties as well.
    # Your driver's license can be revoked.
    # Your car insurance may be cancelled or the rates dramatically increased.
    # Cars in and around illegal street races are often issued equipment violations.

Yesterday, I heard on the news that there hasn't been a street racing-related death in San Diego in one and a half years.

As for driving this car for what it's designed to do, please keep the racing to the track. There are too many uncontrolled variables on the streets. Even in open areas that are not populated, there's always wildlife of some sort. What if a deer darted in front of you while you're traveling at 130 mph? You would probably kill or seriously injure yourself, the person you're racing, the deer, and damage the environment around you.

I'm definitely anti-street racing but considering that over 50,000 people die every year in automobile accidents, those numbers are insignificant.

Not if your family gets broadsided by a street racing punk who thinks he is invincible.

Just because the car can go fast doesn't make it right to race on the street. I can't imagine you feel good about yourself defending this, do you Hugh? There are much better things to advocate.
I'm against picketing, but I don't know how to show it.

For what it's worth, I'm against streetracing, as much because the people that do it are numbnuts as the actual risk itself.

Driving over the speed limit is okey IMO, but when someone is racing against another, you are in a totally different situation.

Take the NSX to a track and go nuts there

I have a friend who's mother was killed because a teenager lost control of his car on a streetrace (on the opposite side of the road).

Take your car to the track if you want to race!!!

You're a ricer, you have been watching too much F&F. You should know better and leave the racing at the track. Not only you are endangering yourself, but you're bringing you're whole family/friends with you.(are there anyone loves you at all?)
Your ego gotten so big and can't control it. Why you feel that you have to prove something? There's always a car faster than yours so why bother endagering you life?

This is probably one of the most stupid thread I have seen so far here. I hope your NSX brothers banned you and disown you. Street racing should not to be tolerated to any car forums, period.

Hugh, I have to agree with the others on this one. Its like saying 50,000 people die of cancer each year so 500 drunk driving related deaths are insignificant. They have nothing to do with each other.

Most accident fatalities are just that... "accidents"... but you can certainly do something about not street racing. No one goes out and intentionaly has a car accident... but you do intentionaly race. Thats where there is a difference.

NSXTCY85, I am not trying to be holier than though, I used to street race myself when I was younger. You just don't realize how in a split second, your entire life can change. Just keep the racing limited to INSIDE the Epping track. I am all with you there... next time you go, let me know I will go with you. I will even run against you... but outside... be cool bro.
