Lud, have you considered open posting ability instead of the market section?

I know you have to manually place the ads a couple times a month. This might save you some time and allow ads to be placed faster. Just a thought...

Ask Chris... See what happened to http://www.nsxclassifieds.com/

Trust me, I would LOVE to not have to spend any time on maintaining the Marketplace, but I filter out a lot of junk and have also declined to run ads for cars I know have a serious damage history that the seller did not want to disclose. I haven't figured out a way to keep it up to the standards I'd like without my reviewing each ad.

I agree with Lud, it's hard to have something up that the owner would want to keep some standards on. I was tired of seeing nsxclassifieds.com abused with smut, ads for boats, Supras, and all in general non-NSX things. I don't have the time now to be able to write new code to better administer the site. Now, becuase of a few idiots out there, everyone suffers.

I have two proposals to make this work. For my site, I plan to release an updated version that offers more features, but would require a nominal fee to deflect non-NSX ads and to offset server hosting fees.

Obviously it is up to Lud, however, I see a forums-based classifieds system working by having a few individuals that frequent the site administer and regulate this area. Of course, like the fiasco of individual rights our country is facing now, there are implications with this proposal.

I understand. Lud, if you think the above is a good idea, I would volunteer to help you moderate the section. Justin

I would also volunteer to moderate the market section - with guidelines set by Lud of course.

    Lud,
I will throw my hat in to help moderate the posts and content. I spend most of my waking hours hear anyway. Why not make use of it?

Too bad about nsxclassifieds. I loved that site. It was very useful and I made a number of great purchases through it.
It only takes a few bad apples to ruin it for everyone.

OK if you guys would like to see it work that way and are willing to help moderate it, let's give it a try.

I'll give several of the regulars who volunteered moderator access to the forum and also set up an image hosting account on the system for classified ads. The moderators can also help people post their pictures (a lot of people have trouble with that on the forums).

It will take a little setup so look for an update probably sometime around the middle of next week.

How should it be split up? One message forum for all classifieds; two separate ones for for sale / wanted; or four separate for nsx for sale, nsx wanted, parts or misc. for sale, parts or misc. wanted?

perhaps from the main forums page, you can create a marketplace section. Maybe under "NSX Prime General Message Forums" but above "NSX Prime Regional Message Forums" since I think the marketplace will generate more interest than regional activity.

The categories within the marketplace could be: NSX For Sale, NSX Wanted, NSX Parts for Sale, NSX Parts Wanted - similar to how your current market is set up.

Thanks for considering this Lud, if anything, it will be an interesting experiment to see if this can be executed and maintained with out the ill effects of what I saw on NSXClassifieds.com

I like your clean category listing opposed to the overkill of categories on other forums.

Ideally, it would be nice to have one link to 'classifieds' that breaks out into the different types. However, I think this is not possible with UBB.

IMO, these will quickly become overwhelmingly popular for one category to handle, however, maybe it would be a good idea to try initially.

I just wanted to assure everyone I have not forgotten about this. It may not be part of the forums though.

Redoing the classified ads to work the way I want, along with the NSX Registry idea and some other things are really pushing me towards fundamentaly new site architecture. So, the site is likely to undergo a major renovation towards the end of the year which will incorporate a number of changes, including the Classified section changes we have discussed. Until then I'll probably keep the Markeplace the same.

I do not want to get into promising anything specific until it is actually ready because I don't believe in "vaporware," but I am really excited about it and I think everyone will be happy.
