View Full Version : NSXPO here we go!

After about 1,200 miles (!) of driving, I was the third out-of-town NSX in the parking lot at the hotel this afternoon. The hotel is great and the track across the street looks like an amazing facility. It's one thing to see it on TV, but in real life it is an absolutely enormous facility. Well I'm off to gas up the car, grab lunch and see who's here.

Lud
11-05-2002, 16:22
The BTW the hotel does NOT have ethernet so the "live" updates will probably use scaled down photos.. maybe 640x480.

I just uploaded the update for today. Tomorrow is the real start of NSXPO so there should be much more to post over the next couple days.

P.S. Whoever is in charge of parking, could you get the 300ZX, Mercedes and any other non-NSXs out of the NSX lot?? If they are owners / club members, please at least have people post all the non-NSXs in the back of the lot by the trailers and tow vehicles. I wouldn't park my NSX in the middle of a Mercedes or 300Z club event's reserved parking area...

I just posted the Wendesday update.

Yes, Charles is here. I talked to him for quite a while at the cocktail reception actually.

There will be many more photos from tomorrow because we are doing the concours. I'll try to take all the "detail" shots of cars then since they should be mostly cleaned up.

Also check out Ronald Warnick's website. He is posting pictures and commentary from NSXPO as well: http://homepage.mac.com/nsgymd/PhotoAlbum4.html

Just uploaded a few pics. Unfortunately this track, while quite fun to drive, does not lend itself to photos with my point-and-shoot digital camera with 3X zoom. It is a club track, not a spectator track. I posted a few pics, but the good ones were taken with my 35mm SLR that had a decent telephoto lens and will be posted as soon as I get them developed. The same will be true tomorrow. Hopefully TMS will have better photo ops.

Again it's late and I have to get up in 6 hours to go drive the track again, so for now just some quick-and-dirty pictures. More / better pics and write-up to follow.

Come to Texas Motor Speedway tomorrow between 9am and 5pm. Enter the infield through the south tunnel. You'll need to sign an insurance waiver to get into the track.

I had to leave early, but not before attending the first day of the track event- one of the best days at the track that I have ever had!! I came away completely fatigued, but with a HUGE smile!! : )

The police (and helicopter) escort to the stockyards the day before was a great experience. I quickly got used to having the motorcycle cops stop traffic from entering the freeway onramps when we were on I-35, then having them block the surface street intersections and allow us to run all the red lights we want! I am forever spoiled now. It stinks now, having to obey traffic laws like the rest of the public! : )

It was great to see old Texas friends once again. It’s now their turn to come to California next year for NSXPO 2003.

A big Texas-size thank you goes out to this year’s NSXPO organizational team for putting on such a great event! Let’s just hope that Brent changes his mind and decides not to sell his NSX!!

Congratulations to Wei-Shin, David , Tom, and Eric on their new positions.

Lastly, Id also like to second the special recognition (and award) Lud received at the dinner party for his efforts in creating and maintaining NSXPRIME!

I've gotten enough requests for this that I need to address it publicly.

What helicopter? :-)

We made some promises in order to get the videotape from the police helicopter in our hands. I currently have the only copy and when we figure out the right way to honor our commitments, we'll get it on the Internet for people to see clips.

...and since I did not wreck it, you can't ban me

Not only did you not wreck....nobody wrecked.

Nice to finally meet you Lud (a deceptively quiet guy in person. http://www.nsxprime.com/ubb/smile.gif)

So, give us some feedback on the "Hot Laps" during lunch on Friday. Boring, exciting, etc. (I gave Lud the results, so he might post them at some point.)

How about Goodson Acura providing four to six techs, two lifts, a brake lathe and tire changing equipment (all gratis) and parts at 25% off list for all three days at the track?

The ones who made it all work so well:
Eric Robbins: general coordination, directions, maps, etc.
Brent Cobb: general coordination (hotel, dinners, rooms, seminars), etc.
Vaughn Duarte: general coordination (conference calls, track lunches, track coordination), nagging http://www.nsxprime.com/ubb/smile.gif, etc.
Sam Stavron: everything Fort Worth (police escort, what helicopter escort? and too much behind the scenes I just can't talk about in a family forum), naughty jokes
Chris Croninger: general coordination and giveaways (chairs, attaches, wine, etc.)
Andy and Janet Vecsey: general coordination and everything related to registration before and during the event, lanyards, car numbers, etc.
Matt Falk: printing and email joking
Susan Tableman: everything related to Goodson Acura's support of the event and sweet smiles and hugs for all
Me: well, not much and I still dropped the ball on the keg for the party Friday night. Sorry.

BTW, I wanted to send in the list of requested shirts (the yellow instructors shirts (without the "Instructor" portion of the embroidery)) later today, but it occurred to me that some of the rest of you might want a shirt as well. I have not been through all of the pictures that Lud posted, but there should be one in there that shows the yellow shirts with the 2002 NSXPO logo on the left breast and checkered flag trim on the sleeves and collars. If you want one, email me kzmann@worldnet.att.net for details.

What made it so great was the people that attended. Remember that, please. No matter how much cool stuff we had planned, it wouldn't have made a bit of difference if no one showed up.

People who want additional chairs, shirts, wine, bags, etc., will be able to get them soon. We are going to take orders for these items shortly... we just need to take a break for a week or so.

Please look here and on the NSXCA website (of course) for information on how to get additional NSXPO goodies. And no - you don't have to be an attendee to order them.

Glad to have at least made it out to the last track day. Met some of you but also stood around in anonymity while I gandered at cars I recognized...while looking to put an owner with them.

Meeting Lud was the funniest thing to me, as I saw him walking around and talking to people but never knew it. I saw his car sitting there went to check it out, then got lucky and saw it move...figured I'd better catch him before he left and finally met the master of Prime. ^_^ It's funny to put faces to names sometimes as you never know how your preconceived pictures of people will be crushed when you meet them. Lud was a nice guy...too bad I couldn't have chit chatted more.

From the small tidbit I DID finally get to see and talk to...it was nice to meet you guys (NetViper, Soulstice, Lud, and others I casually nodded to)!

Probably the funniest comment I heard all day was Soulstice's burst of laughter and astonishment that I don't even own an NSX yet! ^_^ Guess it's pretty sad that I've been on Prime for longer than this screen name shows but still don't have the car.

Anyway, wish I could have seen the multitudes, met more of you...maybe next time. Maybe I'll have the damned car by then. http://www.nsxprime.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

This seems as good a thread as any to add my post event ramblings.First off to the organizers great job,the track events were well run by drivers edge and our club instructors.Vaugn,Karl and Eric are all track junkies( always had thier driving shoes on) and pleasent folk.We have some outstanding nsx pilots in our midst!I was honored to be in thier company as part of the instructers corps.MSR was an excellent choice to teach car controll, read lift-throttle oversteer.I was amazed how well the stock car handled some awry inputs and ended up going straight! The exhibition of speed event,at lunch was a blast.other highlites;Lud's recognition of his service to our community and Wei-Shen's election as pres. The weather was amazing ,and our N.E. regions fine attendance with 8 cars, crushing big nsx states like Cali.Cmon guys, this should have been quite an accessable venue for many more! My only rant.Of course the BBque breakfast lunch and diner was memorable.More ribs and cobbler anyone!LOL.Thanks to the vendors who showed up with stuff,MJ!We all know how great Goodson treated us.And the crotch cam during the engine tech sessions was a revelation.I have many more snapshot memories and they can all be summed up with the sharing of great car performance with thrilling tracks and fine like minded enthusiasts both men and woman,go Maria!Anyway counting down till next year.

NSXPO 2004 will be held in and around Watkins Glen, New York.

Both events are targeted for mid-October, with final dates pending finalization of contracts with the various venues involved.

Well Guys,

NSXPO "Texas Style" was truly a great event. My big question is how did you order that weather http://www.nsxprime.com/ubb/biggrin.gif.

It is obvious to me that a lot of work went into it and it showed. Very organized, and things really stayed on track (no pun intended). It was great to meet many folks I have only talked to via the forum or e-mail. And of course old friends as well.

Congratulations to everyone involved for a great job. You have certianly "raised the bar" for us "future" NSXPO committee's!!!!!!

Thanks,

This car belongs to a good friend of mine, GMAC. He's got H&R springs which give his car that nice drop. The Type03's are for sale if you like them...they look awesome in person. He wants to get the BIG RED brakes from Brembo and is changing wheels to do so. These fit the common big brake kits but the BIG REDS need more backspacing.

This was a terrific NSXPO. I've been to every NSXPO (and, as of this year, am the only person who can say that). Each one has its own personality, its own unique activities, and a terrific track event (or two!). At every NSXPO, most folks go home feeling that they had a great time, and that this is one of the very best ways to have fun with (or even without) their NSX.

I brought back tons of great memories. Here are a few of my favorites:

- Dinner at the Mansion on Turtle Creek for the "Saturday dinner on your own", particularly for the fun group (as well as having something other than barbecue to eat)

- The police escort to the Fort Worth Stockyards, with entrance ramps closed off for our caravan

- Hearing Brent talk about the different kinds of forced induction, and seeing them all represented in the parking lot afterwards

- Watching Miled clean his car, and clean his car, and clean his car

- Seeing all the techs from Goodson Acura working on all the cars, replacing brake pads, having window regulators in stock and installing them for both the owners whose windows picked NSXPO 2002 as the place to drop, replacing coolant tanks, etc - I dubbed them "Godsend Acura" - with hugs for everyone from Susan Tableman

- Getting through Rattlesnake at Motorsport Ranch

- Watching Jim blast all the way through the wall in the go-kart event

- Having dinner at the Speedway Club on four levels overlooking Texas Motor Speedway

- Taking the Goodson Acura customers for a ride around TMS at lunchtime on Sunday

- Seeing faces to put with names like NetViper and Soulstice

- Meeting lots of new folks and recognizing lots of familiar faces

- Perfect weather every day, making the comments about the previous three weeks of rain difficult to believe

Thanks to everyone who worked hard to make this event happen, and to all that were there to share it. It was wonderful!

I'm not sure if I've ever had so much fun with my clothes on. I can tell you guys I have learned volumes. Many thanks to John Vasos, Andie Lin and Aaron Reitman for giving me the benefit of their experience. I definately was enlightened. It was the first time we had done something like this. I've never been more proud of my techs and their teamwork.
It was great to put faces to posts I've read for quite a while...Larry B, Lud, Doc John, Soulstice, NCdogdoc, and nsxtasy (beware Ken, my girlfriends and I are coming to Chicagoland, get some rest!)It was wonderful to see some buds who don't get to Texas very often...Jim Erwin, Mark Basch, Nick and the infamous Mark Johnson. I was very excited to finally meet Chris Wilson, Bob Leonti (I'd know that voice anywhere),and Wei-Shin. Met a few new buds too, like Ed, Gary and Miled all of whom I hope I get to see more in the future.
I'm greatful to have gotten to know the Texas contingent better as well. Of course we all know that Vaughn can really drive, Brent makes primo margaritas, Janet is always organized, Eric is a wealth of knowledge and has an extremely long fuse, Sam does own Ft Worth and Chris would rather be sailing then sitting on a computer, but who would have known that Karl could blush and Andy actually is a sweetheart.
Hope you guys will include me again in the future!
Susan

Crew!

I just got back from Texas after spending some quality time with Dallas area friends before driving the 1000+ miles home. I just wanted to say thanks to everyone for the wonderful time, the fun and shared experience. We are truly fortunate to have such a fun hobby that includes so many fine people.

I was asked by no less than 20 people about the NOS setup and other details of my car. If any of you want more info and weren't aware of it, go to the web site at the bottom of this post and read all about it.

I put up the some 190 digital pics I took at the event, plus I have 100 more "real" film pics being developed. I'll get those up as soon as I get 'em back. Go check 'em out, see if I got a shot of you or your car and tell me who's who so I can lable them all! I'll have my event write up online soon as well. No, really.

Susan, does your boyfriend read this forum? Thanks for the good time, you little vixen.

One more thing:

Those of you with an opinion..... http://www.nsxprime.com/ubb/smile.gif......who were part of the track event and had instruction of some sort, would you be kind enough to send me a private email about your instructor. If you don't remember his name, just include your car number and I'll figure it out. I'd like to know what worked and what, if anything, didn't. kzmann at worldnet.att.net
