View Full Version : Whats the biggest subwoofer ever put in an NSX?
Wooo hoo I'm first--I was dreaming last night and was wondering if anyone knew of someone throwing some huge subwoofers in their x? I'm sure someone used this platform as a show car.

hey, blaupunkt has a 12 inch sub that is only like 2 inches deep, and needs litttle air space...check it out....
AHHA actually I had purchased a high excursion 10" sub, but I'm going to sell it. I'd rather buy some smaller speakers/reciever and some performance parts. The "loud" nsx idea died really fast.

There are only so many cubic feet in the cockpit of the NSX (even less for some of us:(), how much bass do you have to make? (Dumb question, I know:))

The kid I bought my car from had an Alpine MP3 unit installed, an amp, and all new speakers (JL's) The 8" sub though on the small side sounds beautiful in the car. It sounds so much better than the crackling old Bose!!!!!!
But I agree the NSX's sound system is behind the seats!!! six equal noise makers!!!:D
Hahha like I said I just want clear sound (despite being a "bass head"). I've realized that I'll just upgrade the stereo (speakers, head unit) but have no subwoofer. This is a huge change for me, but hey that's money for some headers =):D

I'll be putting in 2x 12inch pioneer bullet subs, do i win? Yes im using the car as a showcar...............
I used to be a basshead too. Had a big sealed enclosure with twin JL 12w6's in my last car. I was thinking of doing something similar when I got the NSX but after analysis of the situation, I chose to just do an enlarged subwoofer in the passenger footwell. It doesn't attract attention from cops 2 blocks away like my old system... but it does the job for the small cockpit of the X. :)

The December issue of Car Audio/electronics features the ALPINE's NSX. They Show a picture of a 12" sub placed in the stock location surface mounted.
i get mine back tomorrow and i put mb quart in the door and a ten inch jl audio in the passenger floorboard in a custom fiberglass box.......a little less legroom but the wifes legs aren't that long anyway......went and listened to it today and even though the box wasn't completely sealed yet it sounded great......a buddy of mine did it and said he will never work on an nsx again.......pain in the @%s.........was his exact words....

I have a custom fiberglass/carbon fiber enclosure in the passenger's footwell housing a 10" Alumapro sub using a .5 cubic feet. In the doors I am using the Focal Utopia series separates. For the head unit I went with the Nakamichi CD 700. Powering this from the tool kit recess is a McIntosh 4-channel amp with two channels bridged for the sub. It has internal fans for cooling which is almost mandatory if you are using this location, given the proximity to the exhaust and associated heat. I managed to sneak an Eclipse 1/3 octave parametric equalizer behind the trunk space recess on the right side. And I had a custom built Delphi XM radio mount built into the center vent/clock assembly. Yes, I know it's no Bose, but it's the best I could do...
10" kicker solobaric
I also had a fiberglass enclosure built in the passenger footwell which houses a 10" kicker solobaric (suare one). If done right, you should not lose much passenger foot space at all. The car sounds tight for just having one subwoofer.

Danny
