View Full Version : Double Din Discussion
Looking to open an informative discussion here...Has anyone done a Double DIN stereo installation, replacing the oem head unit with an oem-type head unit (maybe from another Acura or maybe a different car entirely) that has the built-in 6-disc CD changer? Or an aftermarket Double DIN AM/FM/CD? I did a search and picked up some useful info but not so much on the Double DIN aspect. Any thoughts, tips, etc?

Double din has been done but you need to do a little triming.
The Acura radios are a little smaller then double din but not much.
The best thing to do is get the size of the unit you want to install,
and post it here so we can help.
With the new SOS dash pices you can make anything fit.

I am considering a Jensen CM-720K aftermarket head unit; which is a 4-channel unit (2 pairs of pre-amp outputs). One reason I am considering this one is that it appears that the finish is reasonably close to the console piece that surrounds it, but it also seems a little smaller physically than other double DIN units. I realize that Jensen is not considered "high fidelity" but it would be better than playing the harmonica, since the $#@# Bose system isn't working. I am open to alternatives. I will try to post a pic below.

I did double din here in my NSX in Europe. It needed some work on the radio (to fix it), normal slide-in doesn't work ! and some change on the car itself... bend some metal to make it pass and there it was... everything working and shining.... Just one thing, taking the premade holes out of the centerconsole isn't very easy and not a clean way to do it... I recomend using an aftermarket console (S.O.S. or DALI) I'll post a pic later.
I will be undertaking an AC repair / stereo install / alarm install in the near future...
I have the SOS center panel with no ashtray cut out...
I was thinking I could do the Kenwood DDX7015.. Its on sale.

I have to use a Double Din because thats what my brother wants, so how hard would it be to mount this in the car?
I was also thinking of adding three VDO guages down low where the ashtray is currently. It looks cool, and he likes they way it looks in my BMW.

This thread is 2 years old. Do a search on Kenwood 7015 or double din. You will find several examples. Making the stereo fit isn't so hard as making the trim panel look nice.

FYI, The OE stereo in the WRX is a decent AM/FM/Cassette/6 Disk in dash. If I wanted an OE look double din all in one, I'd be tempted to go that way.
