View Full Version : One Lap
One of the local Supras placed fourth in the One Lap. Will someone please step up to the plate and beat these guys?

I was thinking the same thing. The Supra team experienced multiple mechanical difficulties too. I got to watch them at Hallett and they ran around a 1:31. From what I heard, they were running around 450+rwhp.
Unfortunately, the NSX team had a few mechanical setbacks too. Jon said they had a warped rotor. I timed them with a Robic at 1:41. For comparision, my buddy in a stock MRS Spyder runs 1:43's there consistently and w/o trying too hard. Granted, they didn't know the track at all and seemed very occupied with getting the car ready.
Hey, I'd be more than happy to codrive in the next OLA or OTC if we can compete with your 500+rwhp beast. Just an idea

How can we let him win? Somthing must be done!

I saw the results, it was sad for the NSX. I look up the times at TWS and Road Atlanta and the times were not super fast. At TWS, the fastest time was 6:01.662 or a little over 2 minutes a lap. An instructor that never drove my car ran 2:06 with a passenger on Dunlop SP9000 and he is not even pushing hard since it is not his car and he was just showing me the lines (my car had 320 rwhp). A bone stock Porsche 996 TT ran 2:01 to 2:02 there on street tires at the same driving school.
While at Road Atlanta, another power track, a friend of my ran 1:45 per lap (winning time was 1:40)with passenger or 5:15 which would place it 7th and that is with passenger and Dunlop SP9000's and only 310 rwhp on a NSX. That is also his first time at Road Atlanta and he is not pushing the car hard yet.
Give him some sponsorship and 400 rwhp and he should place top 3 or maybe win it in my humble opinion. He learns the track in less than 3 laps and wins every time trial and autocross he goes to, even if it is his first time at that track. Last time I saw him at Autocross he beat people by 5 seconds in his class!!!
I think the key is learning the track quickly and drive the NSX to the limit. Very few of us can do that.

On a track like Hallett, the NSX needs to win it since it is not a power track. The winning time is 1:28.xx seconds. I feel like the Comptech NSX should be able to turn that time there with great driver. The key is not fast car, one needs a great driver. Who are the best NSX drivers around, they should get the sponsorship. Guys like me that can drive would only enter the event to have fun.

Hey David - I thought your NSX was ~500RWHP and modified for the track. Why don't you jump over and give them an aneurysm? http://www.nsxprime.com/ubb/smile.gif

Time and money.
I thought about doing the OTC, but I have been waiting almost a month for bearings and my motor is still out of the car. Who would have thought that factory parts would hold me up for so long?
By the way, Clint is a friend and I just love giving him a hard time. Here are his Lexii:

For a small town, Austin has a crazy car scene. I would put this town's fastest cars up against anything anywhere.

How about 9lb. Marc? He is sporting the new BBSC and is getting the high boost kit soon. He also seems to be an OK driver.
If you really want to win the thing, find a really fast driver and make sure he's driven every track in the event for the better part of a day, at a minimum. Nobody can learn a track well enough to turn great times after just three laps.

Juan Montoya? http://www.nsxprime.com/ubb/confused.gif
Kimi Raikonnen? http://www.nsxprime.com/ubb/confused.gif http://www.nsxprime.com/ubb/smile.gif (Those two guys might be a little too pricey - not to mention busy - right now) http://www.nsxprime.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I wasn't necessarily referring to a professional (although a pro should do even better), just a reasonably aggressive, experienced club driver/racer. I could name half a dozen in the NSX Club. (And no, I'm not one of them; while I'm fairly fast and very experienced, I know well who's faster than I am.)

Then you shouldn't have said Nobody http://www.nsxprime.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
Just kidding Ken. The reason I picked those two drivers is that many times during their rookie seasons in F1 the Speedvision announcers remarked how "these guys had never been to this track before" yet were considered very fast in their first practice session.

Actually, it would be interesting to hear whether one of our fast, experienced drivers (such as those on the Pulp Racing team) have ever been to a track they had not previously driven, and used a hotlap timer there - and, if so, to hear how long it took before their lap times started approaching their fastest times of the day.

Ha! I appreciate the nomination. Like many other guys in the club, I run around 2:01 - 2:03 at TWS and a 1:31 or so at Hallett the one time someone had a stopwatch on me. Guess im sorta in the "weekend warrior" class as far as far as how fast I get around the track! I'd love to do a "one lap" one of these days...just need a co-driver. I'll take P.D. Cunningham! http://www.nsxprime.com/ubb/smile.gif
Here's a video of me (black NSX) and Vaughn (Silver NSX) at TWS:

and a Video from Hallett from Dave's car of him chasing me and Sheldon:

Really, how do you think Autocross is ran? How do you explain a person never been to Pocono East, show up for time trial on SP9000 tires and ran the fastest time of the day (all classes)? Beating people that ran there for years with fast cars like ZR-1, M3, and stripped out race cars. I guess that is not a great time (fastest time of the day at a time trial).
Obviously this type of person is rare, but they exist and some are not PRO. Some people have great memory and look ahead.
there's also pre-coaching -- for most "good" tracks I'm sure there's some "friendly" who can offer tips/suggestions on lines, places to make up time, etc. Even Realtime and other raceteams do a lot of recon activities.
a lot of this "pre-prep" short of actually visiting and taking recon laps is actually allowed, no ??
The extreme example would be a young karting whiz like Raikonnen who learns the tracks by playing video games

Montoya used this strategy for his rookie days in CART and F1.

I would be interested in the idea of sponsoring one of the NSX guys, too. I have met a number of great drivers (like Nimbus and JPS Europa) and heard about fast and experienced drivers(including Ken.. come on Ken... don't be too modest :D)!! It would be very exciting to see one of the members from NSXCA to compete!!
