Hey, aren't they still patrolling that and handing out unjust tickets? I've read a lot of horror storries in the last 2 years so I've stayed FAR AWAY from that place.
Here are the details for those who haven't been busted yet. |

I think that middle of the summer and middle of the day you can expect heavy enforcement. I don't think early morning in March will be too bad but i will let the locals say for sure. I don't plan on doing any speed runs on the Dragon so i will scout for ya
.I think one of the wrong things that people do is to add their meet to the calenders for the Dragon (Deals Gap). Why advertise that you will be there? PLEASE don't add us to their calenders. |

The Dragon has been fine for a while now. Several months ago, the police were out of control, but that did not last too long. There will always be officers up there, and their presence make the road safer IMO. You don't have to drive 60mph through there to have fun. Besides, there are other roads in the area to have fun on.
Either date works for me. James

Either day. The cops aren't going to be out until May or June. The rubber from my tires will be long gone by then.

I would be up for it depending on the weekend. When do you think you guys are going to lock in a date? Are the plans to arrive Friday afternoon or Saturday morning and drive all day Saturday, go home Sunday?

I think the best thing would be to arrive on Friday so we can meet early on Saturday morning at the Dragon. After the Dragon we can stop for lunch and then drive some of the other roads in the area.
So far everyone is available for both days. We can probably set the date for the 22nd. If the weather isn't cooperating for the 22nd we can bump the date to the 29th. I will be driving to Knoxville either Thursday or early Friday morning and returning home on Sunday afternoon. |

Count me in!!! Either date would be OK with me.
Was on the Dragon today and it was great. About 55 degrees...mid-afternoon and absolutely NO patrol ! There were only about 5 total bikes, and 2 cars...Probably because Deals Gap is closed for the season. TitaniumVtec and I drive it often. There are nice places to eat and we can figure out a good schedule easily. Can't wait...it's been too long since we've gotten together in an NSX group.

I'm in possibly for either weekend. I plan to be there in two weeks (in the NSX weather permitting) but might be up for another trip in March.

Anyone object to me inviting some of my non-nsx friends?

I should be able to make it. So long as I am free those weekends, then I will do my best to be there.

Hey Comtec & MJK...Hope all is well with you guys.
Heard and saw the news footage from the tornados. Really looked bad. Let us all know that you guys are OK! Best Regards...Debb

Thanks Debb,
I really appreciate the concern. I made it through with no problems that i know of ( haven't seen the house in daylight yet). Last i heard they said there were around 10 confirmed toronados yesterday in my area. The winds at home were very strong with lots of tree branches (some large) hitting the house. I knew a bad storm was coming so i parked my work vehicle and my small suv both sideways in front of the garage door (Had to protect the blue goose .)

Thanks for the concern, Deb.
All is well. I got to see a funnel cloud or two, and even have power + cable again. Being on the same grid as the hospital is a good thing. Lots of folks around here got hit pretty hard. Union University, a gas station, part of the regional hospital and an old folks home all got creamed. All were within a mile or 2 of here. Power lines are still down everywhere. I feel very lucky.

Where do you guys want to stay? I like the Holiday Inn in Cherokee because it is an easy drive to get there, there are things to do and places to eat. The Microtel in Robbinsville is very close to all the good roads but there is NOTHING to do or eat.

I was thinking on the Tennessee side of things. Maybe Maryville?? Approximately 30 miles to the dragon across the Foothills Parkway (I nice 18 mile drive in itself). There are lots of restaurants, auto parts stores, etc... in town to make one's stay more enjoyable. Just an idea!!

The Jameson Inn is right by Foothills Mall in Maryville. I've never stayed there (friends in Knoxville) but the reviews look good and it looks nice from outside.

That's what I was thinking. Robbinsville has nothing to offer except a nice drive along 129 to the Dragon. Can't even score a beer there.
