Gasoline smell?

Hello, this is my first posting on NSX prime! I recently bought a 92 NSX and love it, but when I park the car in my garage, I notice that there is a strong gasoline smell. The smell has actually deminished over the past few days, but I can't seem to get rid of it totally.

I recently had the 90K service done with new belts, hoses and water pump. Could something have been left untightened during this to cause the gasoline smell? No leaks are noted and the engine bay appears clean.

If anybody can help or even give me a suggestion as to what it make be (?).

First and formost, is there any gas on your garage floor under the car?

Since you just had major service, I would check a of the fuel lines incuding the fuel filer pipe for leaks and the fuel pump for leaks and proper shut-off.

LEAKING FUEL INJECTORS just replaced mine but i have a complete set of rubber washers and o-rings that will fix the problem...very easy to do. if you want the o-rings let me know...they are about $90 from the an acura stealership. you could have mine for $50. should only take an hour or two to do.

how ever you fix it please do it soon. if they are what is leaking (which is actually very common) they are leaking onto the manifold and the gas is burning off before it gets a chance to pool up. but if it ever does pool up you are only 6 inches away fro the headers....if that happes, you have a fire.

let me know if you want them, save me from returning them.

Hi guys, thank you for the quick responses! There is no gasoline leaking that I can tell. I checked around the engine bay, the injectors and everywhere else I could see and other than smelling the fuel I can see nothing. The engine has not been cleaned.

The other odd thing is that the smell is getting less and less each day, but is still noticeable. It may be nothing (hopefully But I will look into getting the injectors and other hoses checked.

it could be many different things.just give it time. if the smell goes away and you feel or see nothing different about the car i wouldnt worry. if it stays and your car performs differently or you are loosing gas mileage then be concerened.

couldn't he just be running really rich?? is the smell there a few hours after you drive the car? is it in the garage for a period of time running?

what if when doing the service they spilled some gasoline on a rubber component. the rubber absorbed it and now is slowly releasing it. so eventually it will go away. you might call the mechanic anyway just to let them know.

Hi all, thanks again for the suggestions. I have noticed that the gas smell has really been diminishing, so hopefully it was nothing more than perhaps some spillage from when the 90K service was done.

When I can smell it, it is after the car has been in the garage for a while, but now it is barely noticeable. Gas milage still seems good and nothing has changed performance wise. I may still take the car in for a check anyhow.

if he would have to be running really rich to smell straight gasoline. when you run rich it just smells like exhaust just alot stronger.

Hi--this is my fisrt contribution to a tech thread and don't own an NSX yet, although I'm actively looking. Anyway--the fact that there is a gradual diminishing of the odor day by day may mean a gradual improvement as the fuel level drops with each drive. If this is the case, you may have a small leak at a fitting located higher up in the fuel system--such as the filler hose or hoses involved in the gas fume recirculation system. If you haven't filled up the tank since this started, do so and see if the odor returns. Just a thought. Good luck and fill us in on what happens.

Another thought would be if you had just topped off the tank before garraging the car the overflow line spills out under the rear quarter panel from a small hose, this can sometimes be a scource of "gas"
