Apr gtc-300/500 any review?

I have the GTC-300 which is more agressively raked than the GTC-500. For street and keeping it at 120MPH or lesser, the 300 is better.

It's been super reliable and starting at 70MPH I can start to feel the down force. The downforce grows exponentially.

At 100+ it's VERY noticible. In the rain it creates a huge rooster tail.

With the 2" risers that increase the height so I have an unobstructed view with my rear view mirror:

I also notice more downforce at all speeds.

I also got the Gurney flap that adds to the downforce effect.

I've seen all kinds of different ways that the GTC spoilers have attached to the trunk. Like if you look at Coz's car, it looks like it may perhaps be a different mount than your own, or if you look at the mounts on the science of speed website or APR's website, they show an even different version of a solid metal mount with a lower height than yours it seems. Do you know anything about these mounting options?

Also, do you know how tall those stands are that you're using without the 2 inch risers you have on there? I'm really interested in the GTC spoiler myself as I think it's the best looking spoiler you can get for the car. Thanks!

Dan, good questions I hope batman can provide some insight. I didn't know there are other mounts available for this wing. Im leaning toward the 300 myself.

Do you have a closed up picture of the gurney flap you are talking about?

I don't remember the exact height of the spoiler stands without the risers, but I think they are 12".

They only option the aprperformance.com offers for mounting is the factory location so it's completely reversable. No drilling or cutting. U may be seeing other similar looking wings from other brands or someone taking a universal spoiler and hacking up the trunk lid.

The current stands are suppose to be the one on my car and the red ones. The orange ones were the earlier and heavier stands.

I see, I have seen some great deals randomly depending on the website I'm looking at for universal APR wings. I was worried, however, that it might be possible increase the width between the stands, so that they go right up against the OEM mounting positions for our trunks. If it were impossible to reposition them, I definitely did not want to hack up my trunk to attach the wing to the vehicle. Do you know how these stands attach to the carbon fiber itself? are there perhaps some inset threads that screws go into for different "stand width" setting, and it's just a matter of choosing the ones that are right for your car? If it's not adjustable, I'm definitely getting an NSX specific wing then. Thanks for being so helpful in this matter.

The stands are cnc milled aluminum and they have bolts already inserted in there (dunno how they did it, but itls cleaver and allows for a clean installation with no ugly hardware exposed).

There are carbon fiber plates/strips that is a barrier between the stands and trunk to protect the trunk lid and reinforce the foundation.

Its a well designed piece.

I've had it for 2 years with ZERO issues..

I would do it again in a heartbeat. Can't imagine driving fast without one. And it makes driving in the wet not only funny, but safer since ur more planted.

Curious, what sorta prices ya'll seeing out there?

I've seen most NSX specific ones on some websites down to about 1100 shipped as the absolute lowest ones I've seen. Randomly I may be able to find Universals in the 900s for GTC 300's

and if I look on ebay, I for example saw someone selling a (used universal) GTC 500 for 650 shipped, and a brand new universal GTC 300 for like 750 shipped. Beyond that, they all hover around 1100-1300 dollars. But like I had said, I wasn't sure if the width between the stands were adjustable in terms of the way the stands attach to the wing itself which was the limiting factor in if I were going to be able to allow the bottom end of the stands to mount to the OEM location. In that case, you wouldn't save money at all by going universal and trying to get that to fit your trunk (beyond machining your own custom mounts or whatnot), and would rather spend the extra money to get the NSX specific one instead.

I think your car looks great! I love the way the wing looks on the car and want to put one on mine as soon as possible and see how that it also functionally improves my driving experience.

The first pic shows the gurney flap that is like a lip on the edge of the spoiler.

It's cf and comes with some uber stron 3M double sided tape.

If it was to repaint my spoiler and gurney flap to match the factory black I would remover the 3M tape that came with the gurney flap and epoxy it to the spoiler and then paint everything together so it looks more like a single CF mold if u catch my drift.

I'm afraid to put such an effective wing on my car because i just don't think i could generate enough front downforce to make it balanced..I mean if this is for steet cred then have fun but, at the glen where we have 100mph turns I'd like to have my front wheels turning in:wink:

Dan,
Keep me posted if u can when u order yours. The price you found are a lot better then those I could. Cheapest nsx specific is $1200shipped. I'd love to find one cheaper, especially if its nsx specific.

Thanks for the props dan.

No the stands are not adjustable in terms of distnace between the 2 stands.

U can adjust the angle of the spoiler. I went with the most agressive that will literally suck helmets off tailhgating bikers.

I can't wait til I install full open exhaust so I can angle up fireball rooster tails between shifts and send people and animals running for cover.

The spoilers look good painted to match the nsx paint. Or at least u can smoke out the cgf with a diluted pearl white for example.

I was afraid of being able to create enough front downforce itself. Does venting the hood help this out any?

In any case, I don't think I'll be driving at any track that has 100 mph turns for the moment, but will figure that out when needed. (Only autocross for now)

I think for street car this would add more aggressive look, since I don't ever track the car or even know how I think I would like this wing better.

.

No Problem, and that's good to know. I definitely do not want a universal one anymore then.

LOL.

Ur correct I have the chin front lip that I will be installing. It looks like the cwest lip.

At speeds around 100mph with just the OEM lip the front starts to feel light.

Here one of the cheapest ones I've seen though I don't know if this one includes shipping, or includes the gurney flaps:

Also, there's a universal GTC 300 on ebay, that I've just been watching but had no real intention of bidding on. I'm not going to purchase a wing immediately, but will be saving up for one:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/APR-...ff9QQitemZ300489486329QQptZRaceQ5fCarQ5fParts

I wonder if the distance between the stands are the same, whether if it's for the NSX or if it's universal, in which case, the only real difference would be in the mounting hardware given to mount specifically to our trunk.

Sinve the nsx has a long booty and the siloutte of a high end super-duper car like the S7, etc the spoiler makes it look menacing instead of rice.

My litmus test is seeing convolescent patrons wake up and snap their necks to see and comment to their gran kids and kids. This includes audience who are challanged with branching out thei family tree.

U dun wanna mount this on anywhere but the factory location which sits above the trunk edge where it can handle the downforce.

Otherwide u may put a dent in the center area of the lid.

The downforce is so great that I was more worried about pulling G's and loosing oil pressure when the oil sticks to the side on the oil pan.

And yes it scares passengers. I love seeing them reach for their imaginary brake pedal and squirm in their seats eyes wide open.

Yes, I definitely would never mount a wing to anywhere else but the OEM mounting locations, if anything I would have machined something that would attach to the oem location then to the stands itself, but then that would probably just be ugly unless I covered that with a trunk deck lid or something to that nature. In any case, if the stands did not come out of the trunk upright where they were designed to do so, it would still look ugly I think.

also, glad to know you can take turns that sharp as well!

This one on ebay is specific to our car since the part number match apr's website.

Advacespeedshop have good price, turn out to be $1269 shipped to my house, still higher then the one i found.

Oh well this is the one I was referring to, that's universal and seems to be a steal, but would be useless if impossible to mount to the NSX:

Also, I think tunersdepot.com has one for 1192 shipped.

Also, would it be possible to let us know what the distance between the stands are for your NSX specific APR GTC 300? I just wanted to compare that to some other options if perhaps I wanted to check out a wing that looks just like the APR ones but from a different brand as well since those other brands are all universal and not NSX specific.
