Remove factory lip spoiler with R wing?

So my 05 has a little factory lip spoiler on the trunk that sits below the factory wing. Since upgrading to a Type R spoiler and R undertrays, I have wondered if this lip spoiler should be removed or not. I think the factory R does NOT have it, but I am not 100% sure. Is this beneficial still or detrimental? Is it messing with the R wing's dynamics? I like its look, would prefer to keep it but not sure. Are others removing it?

Factory r does not have it. Noticed that in japan

Seems like it would add even more downforce but what do I know, I don't have a wind tunnel. Did you remove yours?

I kept mine on with the R wing.I have no scientific data to support this decision, but it adds talking points at shows.

If it is supposed to keep the dirt off that back bumper mine is not working as designed. Now I need to find a TSB and talk to my service rep on getting some goodwill

I think you should keep it for two reasons.

It is like a gurney flap for your trunk, and it lessens the gap between the trunk lid and the underside of the spoiler.

Being that you have an '05, removing it would mean that you need to replace the trunk lid with one from a pre-'02. The '02+ trunk lids have holes in them for the attachment of the lid spoiler.

The lid spoiler is to aid the airflow when the targa is open. Factory type R is a coupe. Don't know what it does with a R wing AND the lid spoiler...

I'm not sure about that because in the UK where 02+ are around the majority of them are coupe's and they have the lid spoiler as well....

yeah Im pretty sure it started in 02 for the body change.

DocJon probably bought one of the stick on's or replaced the whole trunk lid.
thats what I did, I didnt want a stick on 3m tape stuff.

So I got the whole trunk lid with the 8 square holes.

looks better with it though.

In late 02 I did the 02 updates except the lights......so maybe I woulda been a contenda for hottest nsx in 02

I think the lip is one of the many things introduced in '02 that increase the car's top speed.

I doubt that any lip will increase top speed. A bit of downforce maybe... but lips create drag. I think this one was mostly cosmetic. I didn't realize it was an 02+ thing.

cmon guys don't we read the wiki..the 02 updates did increase top speed slightly.

actualy Billy they did carve out the obvious ,but yes the real usefulness is asthetic.

We don't know that.I strongly think Honda engineers put it there for a reason. My best guess is that during the 2002 aero changes they changed a certain variable that had to be compensated for in a form of a little lip. This had to be discovered during some sort of wind tunnel testing. I might be wrong but to me this is the best logical explanation.

So Matt's seen the factory 02+ R's don't have the lip spoiler. Has anyone seen a factory R with the lip spoiler ? I'm wondering if it is 100% fact that the factory deleted the lip when using the R wing. Unless someone has seen other than Matt I will assume that's the case.
