Nissan Says No Hybrid for New GT-R

"Do you really, really want a hybrid for the GT-R? Ninety-nine percent of our customers say, 'No, thanks,'" Tamura told Motor1.com at the New York Auto Show. Adding a gasoline-electric hybrid setup like the Acura NSX, Tamura said, could push the GT-R past $200,000 – and for Nissan, that's...

Wish list. What you would like to see in the Gen 2 NSX down the road

I drove a 570S and a NSX 2.0 on a track and I was actually faster in the NSX. Now I didn’t feel faster, in fact I found myself having to adapt to the front wheels “pulling” me out of a turn, which takes getting used to, but the numbers didn’t lie. In contrast, I “felt” faster in the McLaren, and...

Wish list. What you would like to see in the Gen 2 NSX down the road

These would actually contribute to a sales increase, specifically #1 . The broader tuner ecosystem would embrace a non-hybrid NSX once it was available to a larger market segment. The beak should be replaced with a more NA1-2 front-end that had no grille. Re: exhaust, I like the current intake...

Wish list. What you would like to see in the Gen 2 NSX down the road

Thanks for that bit of Honda mechanical history, I never knew that! I’m assuming this was a cooling feature of the C30A and got removed when Honda switched to the C32B in ‘97? Would be great to find out the reason for the deletion of the fan on the right side...

Wish list. What you would like to see in the Gen 2 NSX down the road

Great points all around. I do remember though than on both my 00 and 03 NA2s that the right side intake was for visual appearances only, as the left side actually fed into the engine intake and that’s where I dropped in the Cantrell scoop from SoS to suck in more air. Even my current R35 GT-R...

Nsx to Panamera or S class

I have a 2015 S550, also fully loaded. It’s so high tech, relaxing and smooth, but touch the sport buttons and it becomes a locomotive animal. It actually makes much more Power than advertised since MBZ wants the delta between the S63 to be even bigger than it really is. See pic. .

Where are all the Production deliveries ??

Mercedes is apparently buying back several S63s and E63s because of a CEL that they can’t diagnose. Have you let a Acura / Honda exec know what’s going on ? Apparently that’s how some AMG owners got the company to take action after umpteeen trips to the dealer and being stuck in a C class loaner...

Where are all the Production deliveries ??

When you look at the year-to-date sales figures, it appears that Acura is unfortunately the only vendor struggling to move cars at a pace better than or Equivalent to last year: YTD 18 vs. YTD 17: R35 GT-R: 490 vs. 503 = - 3% NSX 2.0: 140 vs. 442 = - 68% Audi R8: 757 vs. 677 = +12% Lexus LC...

Where are all the Production deliveries ??

Wow, what a visual difference. Looks like it’s actually related to NA1-2. Any chance for MY2020 they can just let the NC1 exist as a halo sports car and not be plagued with a “Diamond Pentagonal” grille...?

Where are all the Production deliveries ??

If Honda made all the changes you describe (cosmetic plus Power bump) I agree they would sell a lot more. I’m starting to look at Honda differently lately. It seems they know they lost their glory days and are indeed trying to get them back. They haven’t succeeded just yet but they are...

The NSX wasn't designed to be the best.

Mogami, found this in the March 2012 issue of Road & Track: ”Our sources in Japan say that the future NSX will be powered by a 310 HP 3.5L V6 gas engine and two electric motors good for an additional 100HP, for a total of 410 HP...it’s rumored to hit 60 in 3.0 sec.” There’s the SOHC J35 and...

Where are all the Production deliveries ??

and the i8 is up 104% year on year to 55 units in Sept. I don’t understand why this car sells. It’s such an awkward design. BMW does a 3 cylinder turbo for $150K and people buy it. the AMG GT I get, its got the looks, the engine and the speed...

    2019 nsx gt3 evo

I think both the front vents and the rear vents looks way better. The car looks much more aggressive, especially the back. if they just got rid of the grille and put a more NA1-like front-end in place it would be even better. Mogami - how much more power are the new turbos producing? Honda press...

    NSX Recall

i agree with you. I never heard anything from Acura on my 01 or 03. I recall that the development cycle was very longggggg...

    The NSX is slow...oh really?

interesting re: your friend’s experience with the 2002 engine; mine is the opposite. My 2000 C32B had a much more pronounced VTEC kick from the factory at 5800RPM while my 2003 felt far more linear and seamless. I had to bolt on the giant carbon fibre GruppeM intake to get the 2003 engine to...

The Honda HSC the 2nd Gen NSX that never was.

I wanted to trade in my 2003 NA2 for this car. But it never came out, which led me to other brands. I recall it was a actually powered by a C32B with further engineering work to get power north of 350. If they would have fixed the Corvette / GT-R tail lights it would have looked just about perfect.

The NSX wasn't designed to be the best.

Mogami, you obviously have impressive contacts. One question, you keep referring to the NC1 V6 as a $70K racing engine. Could you please elaborate on what you mean by “racing engine”...? What in your view makes it more of a racing engine than a Chevy LT5, a Nissan VR38DETT or a AMG 156?

Where are all the Production deliveries ??

It’s interesting that the Audi R8 more than doubled sales year on year (+126%), the R35 GT-R nearly doubled sales year on year (+92%), and the AMG GT is down by 20 cars from last August (-17%)...

The NSX wasn't designed to be the best.

The Question that comes to mind is would they have sold substantially more NC1s with a highly tuned VTEC J35 + RLX hybrid donor parts for $90-$100K? Even with less performance across the board I’m thinking the answer is yes...

    The NSX is slow...oh really?

0-150MPH and 0-180MPH, its not a contest. R35 wins hands down once the RLX-sourced battery packs shut down at 120MPH for NC1. And the standard GT-R is faster to 150MPH, you don’t even need the Nismo to top NC1...

The NSX wasn't designed to be the best.

thanks for these insights, mogami. So this means Honda was restricted from Day 1 in how competitive they could make NC1 due to the self-imposed barriers of the RLX hybrid drivetrain. Whereas the V10 NSX was a scratch-built design in true Honda spirit, NC1 was essentially Ito’s parts bin special...

The NSX wasn't designed to be the best.

You can buy a new GT-R for $85K. They list at $99K and transactions are happening in the $85-$90K level. Thats why Nissan is selling 40-50 a month, steadily, for 10 years. Even a Premium model with the upgraded leather interior can be purchased in the $90K range. Wheh you consider that the R35...
