Can I just drop the new drive in right out of the box and run with it ?

You can drop the new drive into the external enclosure and Acronis software (and Windows) should detect it. You will still need to format it, however, if I remember correctly Acronis will allow you to do all those steps (format, copy the image, etc) in one action.

I will check it out to make sure .... I have a case for internal HD so I will pull the drive out drop it in there and see if thats the case ... if not I guess I need to replace the fan or cpu

Turns out you were right on the fan ..... guess I will try and find a replacement now
