My educated guess is the new Honda FR GT 500 Racecar will be related to the Sports EV Concept. My thinking is that car will be the S2000 replacement in HEV,FCEV and BEV versions(like Clarity versions).
HEV(2.0T,6MT and RWD)
Japan Autosport Mag. wrote that Honda will have a FR NSX GT500 Racecar in 2020(Collins from Racecar Engineering states 2019).
To race in GT500 the race car must be sold to the public.
There will be more news from the SGT race this weekend.
I was told the upcoming Racecar Engineering Mag. will...
Showing exterior clues to the 2020 NSX?
New front hood air outlets on each side(better looking with better air flow).
New rear bumper(better air flow and heat release).
The NSX biggest problem on the track is it has very high drag(square brick like) that kills it's top speed.
It was designed to GT3 specs(endurance racing) and not to soccer mom mini van specs(cheap to make but last for 200,000+ miles)
The other three are standard production engines that are reworked to racing specs. LT5 block is made stronger than needed but GM always did that because it really...
The NSX development team in Ohio had the right idea of picking the 458 as the car spec to meet and they pretty much met it but by the time the NSX went on sale the 458 was history and replaced by the 488.
They did a great job with the NSX but the extra weight(500 lbs) of the hybrid system was...
If they would of went 100% full-on-top-quality then the NSX would of been $300K.The only thing the engineers agreed with the cost-cutting CEO Ito was that $300k base price was a NO GO!
This NSX was a below $100K car until the new Race Spec Cosworth(Honda Design) Engine.
There was two directions they could of gone from day one.
1) No HEV and raise the ICE to 570hp(3300 lbs) but that would just be a 458 with a sound muffler(turbos). Honda CEO would never sign off on that.
2) Raise the Hybrid power level to compensate for the added weight(about double the power...
Ito told his engineers to make a NSX replacement using core model parts bin because he was tired of his engineers and the press pressuring him for a sports car.A little history on Ito is he is the number 1 reason the FR V10 NSX and Acura Tier 1 was cancelled(he is more concerned with cost...
The Silver and Black NSX that was spied testing at the Ring 12 months ago showed more clues for MY19 and MY20 NSX.
The Silver one was the MY19(suspension changes only).
The Black one(not Type-R) was testing the power-train changes for MY20.(louder exhaust sound)
