    Besides the usual maintainance (checking battery charging, oil level, hydraulic fluids level, tire pressure) I can't think of something special after 3 months (I didn't even had to charge the battery after a 6 month pause).

    As always in such cases I suspect a bad wheel bearing (happens more often than a bad ball joint and is much cheaper to replace).

    Sounds very much like an aftermarket clutch with stronger springs and lighter flywheel at your friend's car - would explain both effects.
