just bought a 93 and it came with 17" wheels on all 4 corners. i know they come with staggered setup. why did someone put this on and is it just NOT right? should i change to another set ? anyone have some experience with this? BTW they are 17" Fittapaldi wheels..........

The newer nsx has oem 17/17 combo.I use a 17/17 combo for the track. As long as the front and rear tires keep the stock stagger% diameter and the rear wheel and tire should be wider by 1-2 inches.Typical sizes would be 215/40/17-255/40 /17.If you do some searches as well there are many prior posts on this topic.

thanks for the heads-up. i'll search it out........

Would a 17x8 front and 17x10 rear combo work? Meaning, is it physically possible to run this size and a 235/45/17 front, 275/45/17 rear tire setup with stock fenders? Or is this simply too aggressive/too tall/too wide to work well? Thank you.

The wheels, yes.

No. It's too aggressive/too tall/too wide (9.8 percent larger outer diameter than '91-93 stock in front, 7.6 percent larger in the rear) and will rub the front fender wells like the dickens. It will also give much poorer performance due to the additional weight as well as the change in effective gearing (like getting taller gears for the car).

Thanks for the quick response nsxtasy. I accidentally stated 275/45/17 for the rear tire size when I actually meant 275/40/17 though...I just noticed that now. I have seen 255/40/17 used on NSX rears before, and it did look like there was a bit more margin. However, handling is definitely the goal...not just having a "wide-as-possible" tire. Function first! :D

Perhaps it would be easier if I asked you what you considered an aggressive 17" all around wheel/tire combination. Thanks again. :)

It depends on what you mean by "aggressive". If you mean you're willing to remove the fender well liners and risk having stones get kicked up and dent the inside of the fenders, or if you mean getting a wide body kit, then you can go fairly wide.

The basic situation with the NSX is that (a) it was designed for fairly narrow front tires, so that the driver's legs can stretch out straight ahead instead of being angled to the side; and (b) it was designed to handle well with a fairly small "stagger" (difference in treadwidth, front to rear).

I know some folks who are removing their fender well liners are going with 235 front and 275 rear, but they're doing it with lower aspect ratios (typically 35) and I still have my doubts that that represents any performance improvement at all over, say, the more common 215/40-17 front and 265/35-18 (or 255/35-18) rear. Get these latter sizes in a Bridgestone S-03 - or go with the stock tires in 215/40-17 and 255/40-17 - and you're pretty much maxing out the car's performance capabilities already, from the wheels/tires standpoint. Unless you want to go to track tires, which is another issue entirely (and for which availability becomes a big problem).

Thanks very much for the extremly informative answer. I'm still very much in "research gathering" mode for NSXs, and am learning so much from the FAQs and posts from people such as yourself. Much appreciated! :)

I use 235/40/17 front and only rub on the inner wheel well at 3/4 lock, not bad just sounds a little knarly in parking manaeuvers.Dont try 225/45/17 too tall. Also watch your ride height. If you lower over an inch such as with HR springs or a coil/over setup 235/40/17 may give you top fender clearence issues esp over bumps! And that does cheapen the whole driving experience. And as Ken has said you don't want to remove the top fender linner.
