2004 for 23,000?

no collision damage evident....with only 41 miles, it would have to fall off the delivey truck to have accident damage. Hmmmm....the phone number starts with a 0....

"If it sounds too good to be true... it usually is"

$90k car sold for $24k? Yeah right.

...not to mention all of his recent auctions were for very small items, like jeans. There have been alot of articles about people who build up good feedback with cheap items and then screw someone over on a huge one.

This is all just speculation, of course.

Nick.

here is what i got replied

"am i approved to buy this car?
is it really 23000 buy it now?
thank you

Hello. I see you are interested in my offer. That makes me very happy. At first, like every seller I have everithing straight out for anyone interested. So, my terms and conditions are simple and I hope I will have a great deal with you. Ok.Enough with the talking and let us do buisness. The first thing you will have to know is that I have restricted the bidding/buying because in my last offerts on ebay I got problems with buyers who after they won the auction I gues they forgout to pay for the car but that was that. Now I am very cautios about my offers on ebay. Now here are my terms and condions for you to purchase the car in a very trust it way. 1. The shiping procedure is like this. The car will be shipedd from here by plane with the Lufthansa Air Cargo Company. I will ask only for the shiping taxes that are 2000$.I am located in Switzerland so I am going to ship the car from my nearest Lufthansa
terminal. 2. My payment procedure is Western Union (www.westernunion.com) because it makes the shiping process move faster so I will not disapoint my customers with long time shiping. All you have to do is go to www.westernunion.com and find an local agent near you were you have to go and send the shiping taxes that I specify before. 3. The car will be insured at the delivery service and insured for the transport. 4. As soon as the car arrives, you will test the car and if it does not matches 100% to your expectations, you will return it in max. 7 days since the arrival date. After that I will pay for the shiping taxes. 5. In the 7 days inspection perioud if you decide to buy the car send the remainig balance and I will send the car's papers. Well
this are my terms and conditons. If you agree with them then we will have a very good deal. Thank you. """"

I can't imagine anyone capable of coming up with $23k in cash would actually fall for that. The only explanation I can come up with is that they quietly suspect the car to be stolen but don't care, in which they deserve what they get.

Intresting considering the auction states the person is locatecd at 258 W. Van Buren St. Nappanee, IN 46550, which is a real address acording to mapquest. At any rate, I think ebay should be notified about this one.

But the telephone number shown in the listing is not a real Nappanee telephone number.

Remember, scam artists thrive on people's inability to see through their schemes, because those people are so greedy that they WANT to believe something that sounds too good to be true.

Rule number 1 in long-distance transactions: Risk increases by a factor of at least ten for any transaction involving an international transfer of money, except perhaps for established, well-known businesses.

It is also interesting to note that the "seller" changed the ID on March 13, 2004. One of the photos shows a Charlotte, NC dealer license plate frame so it would be highly unusual that it somehow ended up in Switzerland. Coincidentally, the "034" area code just happens to be for Akure, Nigeria.

This would appear to be the typical identity theft to show positive feedback to try to get a quick sucker to bid.

I got a reply

The car is in 100% working and looking condition, just like the day it was brougt, no flaws or dents, no scratches or any kind of damage.I am selling it so cheap because I am located in Switzerland and here the emission restrictions are very high and I cannot use or sell the car here.

Yeah right. Not gonna fall for that either. I bet the seller is getting excited with all the replies they are getting. Probably think someone is going to fall for this pretty soon.
Not me.

Yeah,
This is the 2004 that the dealer here in Augusta wants to trade for with the dealer in Charlotte (look at the license plate frame in the pics - Hendrick Acura). I actually went and looked at the car and it is brand new. It was on Ebay last week legitimately from Hendrick, but the reserve was never met.

got a reply again.
So,all you have to do is to make a deposit for the amount using wired transfer-western union, the deposit will be make in cash or online at www.westerunion.com and for this you need my address:

Street : VIA NOMENTANA 453
City : Bern,
Country : Switzerland ,.

The amount that you have to send it is 999$ .After this you email me he following informations:

MTCN:(money transfer control number)

correct sender name and address

correct receiver name and address

fix amount that you have send it.

To make the payment all you have to do is to find a western union local office and go there with the money in cash and with my name and address or you can use your credit card to send the payment on-line at www.westernunion.com , after this email me the details that i need.

After i make the delivery i will email to you the following details:

-Tracking #

-Scanned receipt from Federal Express

-Scanned receipt that show you that the car has been scanned and is ready for delivery.

-Exact data and hour when the car will arrive to your address(maximum 7-8 days).

To avoid fees from Federal Express and from Western Union all we have to do is:

ME--i have to declare the car as a gift for you and in this way you

will pay NO custom fees and you will receive the car very fast.

YOU--have to declare at Western Union that you send the money to a friend in Italy that need this money, in this way when our deal will be finished and i get the money from W.U.they will not gone ask me 10% from the total amount that you have send it, they will gone ask me just 3% or 4%.(ALL OF THIS ONLY IF YOU AGREE) Please let me know when you can make the payment and after this i will start the delivery process.
I'm starting to get a kick out of this now.

Here is Ebay's explanation for this attempted auction:

Hello,

I appreciate you notifying SafeHarbor with your concern.

The recent items listed with this account were the result of an
unauthorized account takeover. Unfortunately, we were not aware of this
activity until some time after the listings appeared on the site. Once
we became aware of this activity, immediate action was taken. We are now
in the process of restoring the account to its true owner. At this time
the transaction in question should be considered null and void.

Let me suggest a few ways this could have occurred.

If the user had a relatively simple password or password hint question
it is possible that a third party was able to gain access to the account
by guessing the password.

It is also possible that the user could have unknowingly provided his or
her password to another party. Some eBay members have reported receiving
messages asking for User IDs and passwords. These messages appear to
come from eBay Support, but in fact are not. eBay will never ask for
sensitive information of this nature through email.

Finally, there are a number of computer viruses in circulation that log
and record keystrokes. It's recommended that computer users keep their
virus alert software up-to-date, and check their system often for
problems. A firewall for high-speed Internet users is also highly
recommended.

Please be aware that eBay urges caution when purchasing high-priced
items, especially if the price seems too good to be true.

We do not recommend the use of instant cash wire transfer services such
as Western Union and MoneyGram, and we ask that users decline sending
payment in cases where these are the only methods of payment offered by
the seller. Generally, if payment is sent using an instant cash wire
transfer service and the item is not delivered as promised, no recourse
is available for recovering funds. In most cases, a verified escrow
service should be used when purchasing high dollar value items. More
information on the benefits and risks of individual payment methods can
be found at:

http://pages.ebay.com/help/buy/payment.html

Again, thank you for taking the time to write to eBay's Trust and Safety
department. I appreciate your continued help in keeping eBay a safe and
fair place to trade.

Regards,

Adler

I wonder how much longer I should string them along.
Tell him that you are really interested in the car, but you want to see a copy of the title to verify that he owns it. See what he replies.

Looks like he (or at least the same M.O.) has another one for sale. An eariler than 2002, listed as a 2004. eBay listing Has some dealer marketing tags on it that say "South Bay Volkswagen." Anyone in the Bay area know who's car it was?

When asked for proof of ownership.
Hi,

The title is at the bank with all my important papers as my banker advice me to do this since I lost some money by saying some personal things and showing to another man some documents that were mine and since then my banker advice me to keep them in the bank until I have serious deals,business..work to do,so until I will not have a proof that will allow me to know that you are the real buyer,I am not able to help you with any of this informations.Hope you understand and let me know if you still want to buy it.

Regards!

I think they are getting mad.
Dear Sir,

About our deal I assume we are 2 mature persons who want to make a fair deal.I understand you are a little concerned from this point of view but this is not the case.I am a very good ebayer with a very good rating and my interest is to have very good deals on ebay so i can have in the future good deals. If i will make with you a good deal, you will recommend me ,maybe ,to your friends or to other persons. For me it is very important to have permanent deals on ebay, any negative deal will not make any good to me.More,i will provide 15 days money back warranty,i mean ,if in 7 days you will change your mind you will resend the car to me on my expenses.I think this is more than fair. But i need to provide me the payment confirmation, prior to shipping in order to make the shipment.I hope you can understand me and also,i hope we can finalize this deal in the best manner. You will have my personal guarantee you will receive the item in max 7.

So,i will expect your answer so we can complete the transaction in the best manner.

Regards!
Maybe one or two more emails and I will let them go.
