I am considering putting the clear bra on since I just got my whole front end repainted for 2k. I've been getting quotes of 1000 for the front which only includes part of the front hood and 1500 if I want the whole hood. There were rock chips throughout the whole hood since the car sits so low so getting the whole hood done would be best. But how does it hold up on the nsx aganist rock chips? If it isn't all that great I might as well just get my whole front end repainted again when needed since cost is similiar.

3M sucks as far as the film goes. It has orange peel and yellows over time. But as far as protection, it works fine. Saved me from many chips. Go to a place that does Venture Shield. I was at Bimmerfest and saw some cars that had the whole hood treatment done with front end. They looked great. They didn't leave any edges as they wrapped the film over all the edges. You could barely tell the cars had the film installed.

One place told me they will have to use venture shield in order to wrap the whole hood. But unlike 3M, it doesn't have a clear coat so it gets dull and needs to be spray waxed a lot to make it shine like rest of the car.

IMO the answer lies in your last sentence:smile:

My car came with the 3M clear front installed and it DOES NOT protect from rock chips. Even splattered bugs are a pain to remove. In fact, the plastic enhances all the defects so can be annoying for some owners. I will just eventually have to have the front bumper resprayed every three years+/- so SAVE YOUR MONEY.

I have the Venture Shield clear bra, and have no issue with gloss or shine. I have had cement debris hitting my hood at freeeway speed, and after rinsing off the cement dust, I could not find any damage to the hood. I do have my NSX garage, and wax the clear bra once every 3 months or so.

John, I will call you later with the person that installs the venture sheild product. Supposedly from the research I have done Venture sheild has clear coat in it. It comes with a 10 year warranty, 3m 5 year warranty. This guy is a mobile unit, he works in NY and NJ, used to work out of World Wide Ferrari. Talk to you soon. Frank

We have had a 3M clear bra installed for 4+ years now and it still is 100% perfect. We were given a plexus cleaner to clean it after normal washing and it looks brand new. No yellowing at all. Had it done by a good friend a 3M certified clear bra installer. It works great. Here is his website:

www.cgmdetroit.com

I think the cost was $500 4 years ago.

This must be on the LBBP car of yours if you don't see yellowing. You will notice yellowing more easily on a white car. 3M film is notorious for orange peel and yellowing. Venture Shield FTW...

I had the 3M put on the front in of my Berlina Black NSX and it has been a wonderful addition. My car has had the front in repainted and I was tired of cringing every time something got kicked up on the front in.

The installer that applied mine does them for most of the high end dealerships here in town. He said that 3M has made some significant changes in their product over the past two years and the yellowing is not an issue anymore. He said that he would not touch it a few years ago until they improved their product.

I had my front end, hood (up 18"), top of rear bumper, side mirrors and side vents done. It was the template that he got from the program that cuts the material. The material and install was ~$500. I thought that was cheaper than a repaint every year.

Can you post some pics of the hood, fender, and bumper?

i did mine in atlanta for 500 and an extra 100 for the headlights (02+)
guy came to my house to get it done. did it in my garage took about 3 hours

I LOVE IT- cant be seen ill try to get pics soon for you

I just had a venture shield put on mine. Front bumper, hood (3/4), and fenders (1/2) for $800. Looks very nice.

I have Venture on NSX and 3M on my S2000.

Basic decision: Venture - most clear, but scuffs a little easier and not as durable. 3M - less clear (more orange peel than Venture), but doesn't scuff as easily and handles weathering better.

So, for cars that are parked in a garage most of their lives - go w/ Venture. For cars that are parked outside more than a several hours a day - go w/ 3M.

And price does make a difference - lower price doesn't mean the best deal. Experience is worth a lot when installing clear bra (paint protection film - ppf).

Not even a week after I got my NSX back from the paint shop and BAM! I have this hideous rock chip right above the nozzle.

Just a week prior to my clear bra appt.

Well I do have ZERO deduct on my insurance.

Right above the nozzle on the hood? I swear thats where 99% of the chips happen because the hood turns "up" at that point.
