3M Tape - How much?

My car is getting a full repaint and I am considering 3M tape to protect the paint. The question is how much to use. Most cars that I have seen have the nearly invisible line on the hood where the tape ends. However, on the NSX the hood is at such an angle that rock chips are possible almost all the way up. A friend with a GT3 had his entire front end (fenders and all) wrapped. Cost quite a bit and you can't tell it's been done. Do you guys have experience with this 3M product? Does it have to be replaced often? At a minimum I plan to wrap the Wings West lip, front bumper and part way up the hood and fenders. Ultimately I may end up wrapping the entire hood and fenders. Any downsides to doing so?

I wouldn't recommend 3M. I have it on a white car and it's yellowed and shows orange peel. Ventureshield is much better IMO. If you want a really good wrap job, you should check out Premier. They charge somewhere around 2k for a full front end wrap. Looks better when you do a whole wrap. BTW, I have some rock chips high up on the hood so don't discount that happening.

The paint shop my car is at specializes in Ferrari/Lamborghini/Exotics and they have done many film installations. I assumed 3M since that is all I have heard of. Chances are they are using the Ventureshield. I looked at the Premier site and I believe that is the kit my GT3 friend bought. I couldn't find a listing of cars they have kits for though. Thanks for the input and web link. One other question, if a rock hits the film does it mark up or tear? Just wondering what the stuff looks like after a bunch of strikes.

It gets little marks in it. Just like if you took a pointy tool and pressed up against it. Sometimes it will pick up a small wrinkle.

VentureShield.

Mine is half the hood and fenders plus mirrors.

I would not be opposed to doing the whole hood and fenders. You can consider the lower rocker panels as well.

I also got VentureShield on mine. I've done the whole hood and fender plus mirrors. Price will vary depending on your location and quality of work desired. I think I have gotten my ROI 3 weeks ago when a piece of asphalt landed on my hood on the freeway. No damaged.
