I joined the S2000 club for a drive to Oracle, AZ yesterday and had a good time. They're a friendly group of people and welcomed me as one of their own. The drive was extremely well organized, and the organizer was very knowledgeable about local area drives. Arizona 177 was recently designated the "Copper Country Scenic Route" in 2008, and this was my first time driving it. I enjoyed the route, and would like to do it again with other NSXers.
I continued toward Tucson and met up with Viper Driver and tucsonsx, and we had a nice lunch at Sir Veza's Taco Garage. Then I saw TucAZNSX and caught up on things with her. Afterward, I took a brief detour to my old stomping grounds at U of A before driving back to Phoenix, where I met up with several NSXers at the Scottsdale Pavilions. It was a long, but really fun day. Several people approached me and asked about the NSX; it was nice to see renewed public interest and appreciation in the car. Here are some photos, enjoy!
Met up with the S2000 crew in the morning.
Cruising on the 60.
Picked up a blue S2k on the way.
Entering Superior, AZ.
Getting ready to turn onto the 177.
Near Kearny, AZ.
Stopped for a photo op.
A friendly employee at the Ray copper mine saw us here and offered to give us a tour.
Ray copper mine. It's one of the largest copper mines in the country.
I could probably use this for an NSX transport!
S2k group and our unofficial tour guide.
NSX solo.
Group photo before heading to Oracle, AZ.
I veered off and drove to Tucson on my own, and Viper Driver and tucsonsx drove up to welcome me in style. What a spectacular sight!
tucsonsx's pristine 94 coupe.
Viper Driver's stunning Silverstone 2002 with his amazing new GT Theory wheels.
Lunch time at Sir Veza's with special parking spaces for cool rides.
Great food and awesome company at Sir Veza's.
After lunch I went to get ice cream with Heather (TucAZNSX) and her adorable kids.
Then I cruised down to U of A. My MCB NSX hit 50k miles along the way.
U of A campus.
Paused for a photo in front of Old Main.
Time to drive back to Phoenix to meet more NSXers at the Scottsdale Pavilions. What a gorgeous sunset. I love AZ!
Pavilions car show.
The NSX had a pretty good representation with unagijones, OyATL, integrals, ForTheLoveofDub, and myself.
A very confused corvette owner joined our group.
xiongb1 showed up late and took integrals' spot.
Unfortunate victims of the day's event.
The other casualty of my drive. I'll get it repaired this week.
Time for a bath this morning.
She's pretty and happy again.
Back home and clean.
