By end of next month I would like to have the 90K service done on my 92 NSX and would like to ask for your experience with the following Acura Dealerships. I'm not considering price as the top priority on this one, rather I would like to find a good experienced NSX technician. Here are the dealerships within 100 miles radius from me:
1-BradShaw Acura (Greenville, SC) 10 miles
2-Apple Tree Acura (Fletcher, NC) 53 miles
3-Acura of Athens (Athens, GA) 84 miles
4-McDaniels Acura (Columbia, SC) 88 miles
5-Acura of Augusta (Augusta, GA) 89 miles
6-Hendrick Acura (Charlotte, NC) 93 miles

If you could please post your feedback and experience (both positive and/or negative) as well as technician's names you'd recommend I bring my car to. This again is for the 90K service without the TB/WP (as it was done at 60K).

thank you in advance
Alex

My 105k check ups coming up on my 98', I live in West Palm Bch, FL, as of now I plan to drive to my old town in Aug.GA and have Lary at the Acura Dealership do mine. Unless I could find someone w/the experience and speciality around here.

Hey Alex,
Charles from the mountain run. I had a great time at Acura of Augusta. Larry and Joe were great guys to work on my car. I had all the CV boots replaced. That trip was 2.5 hours for me. I plan on going back so he can do the 6 speed conv. Highly recommend them. Plus, they give club discounts on parts.
Charles

Yeah I can vouch for them too. I let them repair my car when it had snap ring failure and doing my 60k service. Very good work

Mike at MCA Motorsports in Miami. Used to be the NSX tech at Miami Acura. Great mechanic and I believe he has worked on quite a few of the Florida NSXs. 305-251-5095

Update on 90K service approaching

I recently contacted 2 Acura dealerships within 100 miles:
Acura of of Augusta (Augusta, GA):
$787.48 (+tax) for the 90K LESS the timing belt and water pump but including these additional work I requested (new spark plugs+fuel fitler+Diagnostic for a small oil leak I have). I understand and had Danny confirmed it, that transaxle oil is changed, valve clearance is performed and brake fluids is changed. I also requested a quote for a compression and leak down testing to be done, but at $158 I think it's a bit steep (2 hours) plus I have the tools and knowledge to do it myself.

Bradshaw Acura (Greenville, SC):
$908.23 (+tax) for the same work as above except that it did not include what I additionally requested (spark plugs=$95.04, fuel filter=$63.73, Diagnosis for the oil leak=$85.00). Seen that it was already way more expensive than what Danny from Augusta quoted me, I did not ask for compression and leak down testing.

I wanted to thank Charles and the others who recommended Larry and Joe from Acura of Augusta. I plan on bringing my car there next month.

I live in Charlotte and have all my work done at Hendrick Acura (#6). Eddie is the only tech there who works on NSX's and has worked on them since 1991. The service has been impeccable and the same guy always takes of me. Matt Smith handles the customer service side and Eddie does the work.

I don't know how high or low their pricing is, but I know the service will be top notch. Matt's # is 704-566-2305. Good luck getting the work done and let us know how it turns out.

Mike

Update on 90K service price

Quote at Hendrick Acura (Charlotte, NC):
$851.00 (+tax) for the 90K LESS the timing belt and water pump which is pretty much like a 60K as I understand it now (new spark plugs+fuel fitler+Diagnostic for a small oil leak I have). I talked to Matt who offered a loaner car while my car is being worked on (the other dealerships did not offer such a service, I would need to go with 2 cars and again to pick it up). It might end up being a bit cheaper since I will bring my own engine oil and brake fluid (Motul 500). I also requested a quote for a compression and leak down testing to be done, but at $113 which I think it's still a bit steep (1.5 hours) plus I have the tools and knowledge to do it myself.

Just had my 90K service completed at Acura in Cary

Replaced transmission fluid, brake fluid, abs fluid, clutch fluid, plugs, valve cover gaskets, fuel injection service, throttle body cleaning, valve adjustment, 4-wheel alignment, mounted & balanced 2 rear tires,
(Note: Coolant color is now blue, green has been discontinued.)
Total $1068

brought the car in yesterday. Met with Matt and Eddie. Great Folks. What I really appreciated was that they took the time to listen to what I wanted done eventhough there was a lot of things going on at the dealership. Eddie seemed extremely knowledgable about the NSX and help me decide on a few things. They gave me a TL as a loaner while my car is in. So far, service has been top notch. I should be receiving a call today letting me know when I can go get her back (saturday or monday)

Hi Folks!

If anyone is in Florida....do yourself a favor and check out First Class Automotive in Orlando. I am presently at the shop and have watched them work on my car to get everything perfect. These guys (Oster, Nabil, and Gerry) give you VIP service and are honest and have great rates.

I have taken about 30 of their business cards to give to all my friends who are as picky about their cars as I am about mine.

I highly recommend calling on First Class Automotive ( 407-228-2849 )
These guys know exotics and specialize in NSX. There are two X's here now.

:)

Hey, off topic, but would you know if Nabil used to work for Breakaway Honda in Greenville, SC? I knew a Nabil who was a tech there (and his father was a tech at the Acura Dealer. Always wondered where he had gone.

yes Nabil and his dad used to work at the dealer in S.C. now they opened a shop in Orlando, Fla. Plus there are some other guys there that used to work for Acura also. Do you live in S.C.? Or are you in Fla? They specialize in the Nsx and work on other performance cars and daily driver cars. There is another post about the shop and it has the ph number to the shop if anyone would like to get a estimate.

I live in Greenville, and used to work with Nabil and his dad (Nabil was with Honda at the time). Ask nabil if he ever had a kid drive a prelude into a huge snap-on box he had while working up here! (it was not me). It was not funny then, but that was 15 years ago, so it might be humorous by now.

Update on my 90K service:

I have to say I'm a bit disappointed in the communications department with my experience so far. I brought in my car last Thursday (11/11) and left with a very good feeling. I was specifically told that they would call me Friday (11/12) or Saturday (11/13) at the latest to let me know when/what so that I can organize my week to pick up my car (120 miles away). I was left under the impression that the car would be ready early this week. Now Tuesday (11/16) goes by and still haven't heard anything from Hendrick's Acura, to which point I decide to call and leave a message. They do call me back within the hour, very apologetic about not have it done earlier. They tell me that they were waiting on some parts that had to be ordered and that my car would probably be ready today (Wednesday 11/17). Haven't heard from them since and tomorrow (11/18) my car will have stayed at the dealership for one entire week. I was given a nice TL as a loaner, so no real rush for me getting the NSX back, but I'm wondering how come they are so little organized when they know my car is coming in weeks ahead and not having all parts in stock (my NSX was not the only one I saw while there, so they seem to have regular NSX business). Most importantly, how come they do not keep their word when they say they will call me by a given date/time and never do. Finally, do these 90K mile services (more like a 60K mile service since I did not have the Water Pump and Timing Belt done) take a whole week to be done ???

I took mine in on a wed morning and it was ready to be picked up thursday evening.

edit: mine did not include the water pump & timing belt as it had already been done.

update: Got a call today to come pick it up tomorrow. Spoke with Eddie, really nice guy as it appears to be looking out for the customers. However, I couldn't get a straight answer why it took over a week (!) to have the service done (Water Pump and Timing Belt not included as was done at 60K). I'll post a final update tomorrow with details and overall $$$ I ended up paying.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with Hendrick Acura Service. Eddie did a better job communicating with me than the Customer Representative (wasn't Matt). They kept the car for over a week, and I was concerned someone might take the opportunity and joyride it. This was not the case of course as they only put 0.8 miles on my car since the time I dropped it. I like the way the transaxle shifts now, the notchiness I had experienced is now gone. Eddie warned me that with Redline I might have a noisier gearbox, but I couldn't tell any difference.
Except the oil ($3.75/quart of mineral oil) and the plugs ($27.47/plug) I think there prices are very reasonable. But I'm not complaining as they did provide me in the mean time with a very nice TL loaner car (I drove +500 miles on) and such customer service needs somehow to be paid for. They say they want our experience to be VERY satisfied. Overall I'm a satisfied customer, as they are a few things (communication) they can improve on. I will consider bringing my NSX back to Eddie and Co, and would recommend them to fellow NSXers in my area if they are willing to drive +2 hours from here.

Special thanks to Mike7423 for his recommendation.

On another note, as I was driving on an onramp and about to merge with traffic doing about 30mph, I downshift from third to second and gun it and then NOTHING !!! The car barely accelerates although I'm flooring it. As I start wondering what's going on, I realize that instead of downshifting from 3rd to 2nd gear, I actually upshifted to 4th  . So, no mysteries there. But the good news are that before this service, my car would throw an error/CEL everytime I would accelerate like this under load and too high of a gear. This time it did not happen, so it seems that Eddie did fix my little problem (that's the 280mm hose part I guess).

Shumdit,
Actually you can send Nabil a email if you like at either [email protected] or [email protected] My name is Oster, I work with Nabil at First Class Automotive. Usually I do a lot of the emailing and checking on emails. But he did remember the guy that ran into HIS toolbox, lol. You didnt mention that, you said the other tech ran into A TOOLBOX. Call or send email 407-228-2849 Oster

Authors, Moderators, please remove all posts (this one included) not relevant with 90K miles service.

thank you

I'm glad to hear everything worked out ok. I hate to hear that the communication was not there. I can only vouge for Matt Smith, as he is the only person I deal with. Heck, I've never even spoken to anyone else there about my car, besides Eddie.

All this talk about service reminds me that I need to take mine in.

Mike
