Folks:

Newbie member here, Dallas Texas, and this is my first post. I have a '91 black with ivory interior, all stock, first ever 'exotic ' and love it ! That being said, here is my problem:

The audio has deteriorated rather rapidly over the last month or so. Symptomatically, to my ear and thought process, it is as if the final P.A. has melted ( or some board level components have left the building). Volume level basically gone, and any audio which is being delivered sounds as if it is running thru blown speakers ( they aren't ) stolen from an 60's transistor radio! Really awful. AM, FM, and CD all are equally as bad, so in my estimation it is the head unit.

It needs to be pulled and sent somewhere to be repaired. A friend suggested this forum as THE PLACE to yak about, and hopefully solve, any issues I have with the car.

Any advise or direction out there ? I would REALLY appreciated.

Also, I have no idea how to pull the radio out. I do not want to foul up anything on my favorite toy, and know enough not to attempt it with out good instruction.

Many thanks for any / all information

I think it is the amp(s). I believe the speakers to be ok.

Any advise ? Where is the amp located ? Do I need to pull the head unit ( final amp attached ) or is the amp located in another area ?

Thanks !

Joe

Thanks guys for all the advice / instructions.

I will read and re-read prior to attempt at e DIY soultion.

Sure do appreciate all the help - you guys are great !

Joe

Joe,

Briank does awesome job fixing those amps. I just had mine done by him and they work awesome. Fast turn around time too And I live in phoenix. If you need and tips on taking off you door panels just PM me. Also if your tabs are broken I made a write up on repairing those door tabs in the DYI forum under Broken tabs repairs and reinforce. It might help if your tabs are broken or cracked.

You're better off just replacing all the speakers and the sub. I have repaired all my speakers before by Bose. They still sounded like crap when I got them back........I am running boston acoustics for doors and tweeters and zetoolmans subox with an amp and eq. I kept the stock headunit and everything sounds legit now.

Do you have the P/N for the Boston Acoustics speakers. Are they direct replacements...keep the Bose amps? Can the existing sub be kept with this configuration?

There are no direct replacments, you have to install a amp and do some rewiring not a simple job. The failure item is the bose amps so just changing the speakers with not fix anything.
