Hey y'all, I got a 1994 NSX that I just replaced the battery on it about 2-3 months ago. Unfortunately, for those 2-3 months the car has been sitting in the garage. So today I went to go start up the car and noticed the battery was dead. No big deal so I just take it out and head over to Autozone and have them recharge it (it's an Optima yellowtop). I get back home and and plug in the battery and I can the car coming to life with the alarm going off and what not. I get in the seat and turn the key only to hear loud clicking!

I get out and recheck the terminals because it sounded like as if it wasn't touching. Looked at them and they're both on tight. I get back inside to start and the same happens. I look at the voltmeter and it's not even showing anything but the lights on the dash are on and the clock is on too. I tried to crank one more time and got the same result but it only clicked a few times and was slower too. Then I noticed the lights on the clock was getting dim and so were the dashboard.

I noticed the clicking came from under the car rather than from the engine bay. The battery is the correct kind for the car cause when I first bought and installed it, it started up like a dream and I went for a little drive.

This is the first problem I've ever had with this car (besides the clutch burning out hehe) so go easy on me guys. Is this something I can fix myself?

Oh and I tried using the search method before I took up bandwith but other peoples problems didn't seem the same as mine. Sorry for the excruciating long post.

Probably NOT the main relay

Your battery is probably dying and/or the battery connections are no good. The buzzing means low voltage at the starter.

If you are sure the battery+connections are good, next in line would be the ignition switch....but you will get intermittent cranking.

I also think it is the battery. The Optimas are notoriously weak, particularly on a car that isn't driven often. They only seem to do okay if you keep a battery charger/battery tender on them.

Take the Optima back where you got it and trade it in on something else (not an Optima). You can probably get a brand new battery plus cash back.

Thanks for the replies fellas. I'm going to take the battery back to Autozone and have them run a test on it. I'll see if I can get another brand of battery but I think they carry only Optimas :(. The good thing is, there's an 8 year warranty so I can go exchange it whenever I want.

I gotta work all weekend but I'll let you guys know what the deal is. I'll also replace the connections cause I noticed they were a little corroded.

put a charger on it. NSX should start right up.

You can use the main battery distrabution post on in the engine bay to avoid pulling the wheel.

a batter tender would fix this problem for good
