Hey everybody,
I just got my 91 NSX (red/black) last week, and I have a number of questions. I want to keep my car as close to stock as possible, but sometimes there are upgrades that simply make sense. Thanks in advance for any input/advice. I have been bored the past few days because my car has been at the dealer getting a new timing belt, water pump, and valve adjustment...hence all the questions.

1. My car had the old school phone system installed in 1990. I have the buttons on my center console to operate a non-existent phone. Is there anything I can integrate into that touchpad system? Is there anything to replace that touchpad system that is useful/functional? The dealer said there is nothing to do, but they dont consider anything that isnt stock. What have others done?

2. My car doesnt have a keyless entry system. I think I need one because I do not want to worry about scratching my car late one night trying to get the door unlocked. What have others done successfully? I am not interested in taking my car to some local car stereo shop for a new alarm. I would prefer an Acura install, but I am not sure if they will even do it. Any ideas?

3. As I said before, I want to keep my car as close to stock as possible, but I feel very strongly that the Xenon headlights are an upgrade, as opposed to a MOD. Do you all agree? I wasn't going to change out my pop-up lights, but rather the bulbs inside. Thoughts? Suggestions?

4. If I wanted to do some "simple" and inexpensive performance enhancements that do not really compromise a lovely stock vehicle, what should I consider? K&N Air filter or something similar? Performance chip?

5. I read a post earlier that spoke of MARVY Uchida Black Fabric Marker (Japanese product) - I am wondering if this is the correct stuff to buy and use on my center console arm rest, which has some nicks and scratches in it?

Cheers,
Ryan

Re: A handful of questions...

1. In the cars without the factory phone it is a coin tray. Coin Tray

2. I don't know if the OEM keyless system is still available for the 1991-92 models.

3. "Xenon headlights are an upgrade, as opposed to a MOD. Do you all agree?" Definately

4. Exhaust, Intake scoop, Unifilter.

5. Sorry, never heard of it.

I know how you feel, my car has been in the shop for 3 weeks :frown:

1. Don't know.

2. I think you're better getting an aftermarket alarm/keyless system. 91-93 factory keyless systems are gonna cost more than a good aftermarket one..and thats IF you can find one. FInd a good installer that knows NSXs and let them do it.

3. Thats a pretty harmless and tasteful mod.

4. People debate wheter the K&N buys you anything HP wise. You may want to look at a Air Induction System (AIS) and a UNIfilter. The chip is pretty much a dud and waste of $$ too. Of course you should put on some headers and aftermarket exhaust.

5. don't know

I agree with keeping your car looking stock....throw on some 02+ or 94+ wheels if you want.

I just posted this thread on the electronics section of this forum. I decided to post it here also because after I submitted it, I realized that I started with electronics questions and quickly added other things that I was thinking about unrelated to electronics.

No need to answer #1 and #2, unless you want to, of course.

Note that some fact. keyless entries do not serve as an alarm {my 350Z as example:mad: }. Get a better unit with an alarm.

His car already has a factory alarm so the OEM NSX keyless just adds that function to the existing alarm.

Ryan,

Keep watching the parts for sale section. I see OEM keyless units that would work on your car there once and a while. I believe you need one to fit 1991-1992, after that i think they changed.
