Although it doesn't sound like it at first, yes, this story does belong in this forum.
For the last year or so, I've been experiencing clunky shifts, especially going into third. I've even missed a couple (BZZT) because I didn't push hard enough to get past the clunk. I figured my synchros were going or maybe I'd just ground the gears too many times and so I just started to be a lot more careful with my shifts.
I took my car in for service recently and noticed some time afterward that my shifts had gotten a lot smoother. I figured maybe they'd put in better transmission fluid or something and I was happy to be able to shift pretty effortlessly again.
Then yesterday I tried to turn on my stereo for the first time in a long time. Nothing. It's dead.
*light bulb*
I'm pretty sure that clunky blitszafe aux adapter and extra pinswitch cable I managed to mash in behind and below the stereo has been getting in the way of the gear shifting assembly all along, and now I've managed to knock the connector out of the back of the stereo, allowing everything to fall out of the way of the shifter!
Duhhhh...
Next time I'll arrange things under the center console better.
