ABS better after flush, but still not 100%

Some history: as recommended, I would exercise the ABS every few months to keep it from "gunking up". But a while ago after deploying, the ABS would no longer pressurize (pump ran for two minutes then light came on; of course, no functioning ABS any more).

I took it to the shop, where they flushed the system, and said it still had a pressure leak. They want to replace the modulator and pump for $4900+labor! (Or I could just pull the fuse...)

But it is working better now: the pump runs for several seconds after overnight startup, and the light doesn't come on. The pump does not run after a warm restart. So that seems hopeful.

Should I deploy the ABS a bunch of times to try to finish "degunking", or will this make things worse?

Any other thoughts?

Exercising this sytem seems to make it work better. Another flush after a month or so could also help. If you're going to replace it, I'd recommend the SOS upgraded system and not another OEM system. There is also the possibility of rebuilding the existing OEM system. It would help to know what year your car is. Good Luck!

^^^^^^^Mine does this as well and has been flushed. It does'nt bother me
because ABS still works properly.

The seals in the ABS system work better when it is warm. Unfortunately, the condition will get worse where the pump will run very often, like every 10 to 20 seconds.

It's your ABS accumulator. It's lost it's nitrogen charge. The pump can't pressurize due to this and runs and runs.

It's not THAT exspensive. I'm having mine replaced right now. Parts wise with the high pressure hose is about $550.

It's the piece on the far right:

Really? I never heard of this before. Nitrogen charge? I thought the system worked solely on pressure from the pump and the o-ring seals on the solenoids leaking caused the lack of pressure causing the pump to run excessively. Shows how little I know about the ABS system .

Same here.... Nitrogen charge?

Well, you can run the pump manually (Dano's procedures) and see if any fluid pumps into the ABS reservoir while it is running. The seals are leaking if it does. Unfortunately, the seals will get worse over time.

I am honoured. This is a first for me. A picture of my NSX, well this part of it, was posted by another Primer! Notice the lighting. How carefully the shot was framed. You know good photography when you see it, SwiftVision.

These pieces are now residing somewhere in Sweden as they were no longer needed after I went to the new and improved second generation ABS kit from the later model NSX which SoS sells.

I highly recommend the SOS upgraded abs unit. Its a GREAT investment and really modernizes the nsx.

+!

None of that cheap sounding rock in a tin can rattle for me. The NSX is a car of many firsts but the ABS is one that can, and should, be improved upon by replacing it with the lighter, and much better, second gen ABS kit from SoS.

Apparently the flush fixed the problem. It's gone six days without pumping at startup.

Also, since it rained today, I was able to use the ABS five times without smoking my brand new tires. The pump ran less each time, around 3-4 seconds the last time.
