After returning from a drive today I noticed some fluid dripping from the front of the car ('91 NA with no performance modifications). Upon opening the hood I noticed brake fluid "bubbling" out of the ABS reservoir - as in overflowing from the top! I waited a few minutes (for safety's sake) and removed the ABS reservoir cap. It seemed to be slowly bubbling over. This stopped shortly after the cap was removed, so I wiped up the area, put the cap on and looked at my owners manual. It said if the reservoir was too low to see the dealer and if the reservoir was too high to see the dealer. I noticed the brake fluid in the master cylinder was right where it was supposed to be and the ABS reservoir also returned to its normal level. I did only normal braking during the drive - no panic stops or hard braking into corners.
Since I have had my car I don't ever remember stopping hard enough for the ABS to engage, but after this episode I took the car out and did several "panic stops" (in a safe area) to make sure the ABS engaged. It did just fine, with normal braking also just fine. I then checked the reservoirs and everything seemed perfect!?
Could this be related to the "use ABS once a month so the solenoid doesn't get stuck" problem I've read about on these forums?
Has anyone else ever heard of this?
Any help/assistance will be greatly appreciated.
